If only it did not rain!
having trouble with wipers on new to me troopy

Wipers were not working very well (well almost not at all) on a HJZ75 11/96 troopy (done 352,000km)
I greased all the knuckles but still not better so i replaced the wiper motor with a 2nd hand one - wipers still not working very well however i have noticed that if you turn them on with the car at idle the barely move across the screen -like really slow -
However if i rev the engine up to about 1500-2000 rpm the wipers improve to being almost normal -still a bit slow but work!
So it would appear that i am either not getting a good power supply to them of the earth is not as good as it could be
The plug (5 pin) is clean and i even sprayed some silicon spray in there for good measure - does anyone know how the power may be weakened to the wipers? - i have a test light but little else in the way of diagnostics!
cheers
Bill

I would say its not a good power supply. I have 2 75 series, both 95 models. One has excellent power and slides back and forth on a dry windscreen ,the other almost gives up unless the windscreen is soaked.
The poor performer also has an interior light that makes things darker when you turn it on.
Its a horrible dark yellow, the good one has a brightish interior light(for a 75 series).
The poor performer also has a 4 way battery switch,an auto sparky told me they rob power,so I may start by looking at that.

hi mate
thanks thats interesting - i have a cole-hersey (spelling?) switch on my transmission tunnel..... - reckon i disconnect that at the battery and try?
Actually -(brain wave) my 2nd batt diconnected (is cooked) - might start by chucking in a new 2nd batt and see if that makes a difference!

Im sure its a factory failing, all the Landcruisers at work have terrible wipers unless windscreen is saturated, about as good as the electric windows! I find both my wipers and electric windows get better as the vehicle warms up. Its possible you replaced your wiper motor with another not so good 2nd hand motor?

Ive seen those switches on mining vehicles, were they a requirement when blasting?

I put 2 new batteries in and it didnt make much difference
