Hey folks.
I'm guiding some friends along some Moab area trails in a few weeks, and I'm thinking about adding Wipeout Hill to our itinerary. Although I'm not concerned about taking my 80-series Cruiser down (or up) the obstacle, I've never actually been on the trail or Wipeout Hill, and I'm not sure what the accepted wisdom is regarding various vehicles descending the obstacle.

Can anyone here offer any feedback on what would or would not be reasonable to take down Wipeout Hill? I realize we can just turn around if we need to, but I'd rather avoid the trail entirely if that is likely.

The other vehicles in my party will be:

Late model Xterra, mild lift, 33" tires, sliders.
JK Wrangler Sahara, lifted, 35" tires (tippy?).
3rd Gen 4 runner. Stock. 31"-ish tires.
Maybe a stock Pathfinder.

It is more or less a group of novice off-roaders, but we'll be running a variety of milder trails leading up to a potential Wipeout Hill (or Fins 'n' Things).

Thanks for your opinions.

Ryan

In my opinion, the issue to consider is that WipeOut Hill has serious 'Oh Sh!t' potential, without much room for errors. It is not a place to make a mistake. In terms of technical driving, it's not that difficult. There are two different lines to go down, short wheelbase on the right (I've never tried that one, every time I've been there it was a gravel and sand over there...).

Last September, I've taken a group including newbies in via SevenMile Rim. The offcamber section had them unnerved to the point that no one wanted to go down WipeOut anymore...:)

I'd venture that if your choice of more difficult trails is between WipeOut and Fins, I would take Fins. More variety, more obstacles, easy to cut out to the road in case someone feels they're done 'wheeling.

But: I drive an old Blazer, so take this with a grain of salt...:)

x2, do seven mile rim as an in and out. If you take a bunch of newbies down wipeout hill, they will never follow you again.

Wipeout hill is an option on that trail. The pucker power sidehill is not an option but it is not that hard, just gets your attention.
