Hi guys, just had Safelite replace ( for the second time ) a windshield on my Red 2012 TTSE. I had heard the colored trim piece over the windshield was no longer available from Toyota, only white or black. Turns out after some searching Safelite sourced a red trim sheet metal molding for mine thru Toyota. Safelite told me if they could only get black or white, they would get the white one painted at a local body shop at no additional cost to me!!!! :) It did take them almost 4 weeks to source the molding in red but the whole job cost me $520 . Kudo's to them after a lengthy wait. Job done. I had to remove nothing and the install ( though I had to go into the local shop) took 3.25 hours.

Thanks for the info. My only hope is my local Safelite can uphold this great service for me.

Hopefully they did it right and replaced all the clips holding that upper molding and the two others as well.

Having never done this service myself I trust a top company like Safelite to do the right thing. Cant really answer your question except to say no leaks when it rains!! They did mention that because of those clips being one time use they can never guarantee that the molding can be used a second time, might get distorted/bent etc on removal; hence the need for a new molding at each replacement so that would seem obvious that everything gets replaced. Hope that helps. I would definitely recommend Safelite though to any FJ owner, or anyone really, they are nationwide and do a thorough job.

Is your top trim piece metal or plastic? I couldn't get the metal one anymore so the plastic one was my only option and it already has the clips installed. The original metal trim piece had separate plastic clips to install.

Not steel, just put a magnet on it. Aluminum or plastic, dont know. Looks the right shape and color. If its plastic maybe I will get better mileage ??!!

Are the plastic clips sold separately, and what are their part numbers?

During installation, two of the central clips were broken, and they were glued in place as a result. However, I would like to find new clips (the two in the center) and replace them.
