I've got new windshield glass and metal frame.
I got the new rubber gasket around the glass.
Should I mount the new frame onto the BJ74 and then install the glass OR put the glass in first?

Anyone done a complete windshield swap?

I would guess that you use the same method as some of the older vehicles here with a cord and have the glass inserted in the rubber first. At least that is what it looks like to me. I need to replace my frame but the glass is good. I was going to try this method as it is my best guess.
So where did you get the surround and how much did it run you?

When I replaced my frame, I painted it and then took it to a glass shop. My supplier's shop was around the corner from the installer so he dropped off the glass. Quick and simple job - easy enough to do when the frame is on a table, then attach the assembly to the truck.

good little vid on install of glass in a fiberglass frame. possibly the same for the metal frame but not sure.

Thanks Carpet! That is a great video! I was thinking that doing it off the vehicle might be easier and this shows that working from opposite sides makes that do-able.

I dont think it matters where its done, but if you do it off the truck ,you need to make sure its stable and doesnt fall on the ground.

Rosco, I have been fearing breakage and damage for several weeks now. My current plan will involve non-slip rubber mats.

I got the windshield installed in the frame today. I had to get some helpers. I used the method shown in the video... 3/16" rope.
I had the stuff set up on very heavy lab tables in my classroom. I taped on some foam pipe insulators as padding.

After several attempts, I gave up trying to get the rubber seal up and over the frame from the very start. This left about 5cm or so on each long side (in the middle) that had to be dealt with at the end of the procedure. I got those areas by prying up the seal and fishing a thinner rope through on a wire then pulling on that rope as before.

In general, it's very important to work both sides and not get one side too far ahead. A good bit of force was required.
