Just wanted to give a heads up to some who might not be aware or not think about wiring in accessories on your windshield and airbags.
I was pulling off the A pillar trim to do some work on replacing the tweeter. Once it was off, I realized I had three wires that I had tucked up under the headliner that were running across the airbag. I had never really given much thought to the length of the air bag and just assumed it stopped at the top of the A pillar trim.
I started pulling down the edge of the headliner and realized it goes all the way back to the B pillar.
So I had to reroute the wires. Two were going down under the dash so I just moved them to come towards the windshield side of the airbag.
The wire for my rear dash cam had to be moved inboard of the airbag from the B pillar forward then across the windshield.

I really don't know how much affect these wires would have on the deployment of the airbag, but feel it is better to eliminate any chance of my wiring causing interference.

My wires were running across the point where the red line is...

Cripes, that is right where I run my dash cam power wire. Thank you for the info and picture. Now I will have to figure out how to grab power from the mirror but I think moving it is prudent.

I always remove the pillar cover when routing wires through pillar. Faster then trying to push wires there as it is held by just couple screws.

Trust me, unless you are using MASSIVE wire the airbag will obliterate it. Airbags deploy with serious force, I wouldn't lose sleep over some 18 gauge that is simply tucked in there.
Yeah they literally rip open the dash and the headliner/a pillar panels during their deployment.

Interesting. I had made the same assumption about the bag terminating around the top of the pillar panel. On the right side I've actually got a couple of thick cables for two AC/DC adapters.

It would be awesome if someone could help provide a useable diagram of these curtain airbags in the LC200. The ones I can find from Toyota are like pencil sketches from 2 miles away. It's impossible to discern how the airbags actually are placed, how many pieces there are to them, etc.

The curtain airbags go down into the compartment not up towards the windshield. If you tuck a wire against the windshield it should be fine. This is the best picture I have, but I did cut the airbag away after it deployed.

@BrainDoc This is super helpful. I've actually got a couple wires running up my B pillar too, but it's pretty clear from your images that (as long wires have a little slack) the airbag will just push them out a bit. And yeah, that downward trajectory does seems to reduce concern about what could happen up top at windshield height.

Can’t post a picture like that with no backstory.....

Can’t post a picture like that with no backstory.....
In the beginning of January I was out driving with my family in a state park. Someone was drunk, speeding in a 2004 Ford Escape and ran a stop sign running into my passenger front area. We spun to the left and they kept going into the woods. We were all fine with a couple bruises but luckily no injuries. Every airbag went off. I checked on my wife and 3 kids and they were all fine. The car automatically dialed assistance. I had to cut away curtain airbag in order to get out and check on the other driver. She was standing outside of her car clearly drunk telling me I ran into her. I go back inside to check on everyone again and verify they are no latent injuries, and pop back out and the lady is gone. I keep a bright flashlight in the car. and after a quick sweep I see her walking away on a trail. I run after her and clearly inform her that leaving is a bad idea and that she will not out run me. She finally decides to walk back on her own. I run back and the police are there checking on everyone. I explain what is going on and they arrest the lady.

Truck gets towed to dealership, insurance claim filed, they total the car (2020 HE Blizzard Pearl, 11,700miles) ($62K) worth of repair damage and was totaled. They gave me credit for good condition of the car, running boards (bud built step sliders), remote car starter, and tow pro elite. Only gave me 150$ towards the sliders but it was going to be too much a hassle to take them off, so I let them go with the car being totaled.

Was able to order a magnetic gray 2021 HE and am currently waiting for it to arrive to the dealership from port (1/28).

I have already ordered another set of bud built step sliders and front aluminum skids, tow pro elite, credit card key, TrekBoxx Bravo, and plan on going with the compustar drone remote start system again. I run a separate set of summer (General grabber ATX 285/60/18 ) and winter (Nokian R3 SUV 275/65/18) tires and seriously miss driving my cruiser in this snowy winter weather.

If anyone is interested in a slightly (used) and salvaged cruiser at auction here is the link where you can find more images and bid. I am interested in seeing what it goes for.

Cheers!

Just wanted to bump this to reiterate. I’ve seen some threads about dashcam wiring, as I just did this myself. Make sure you take off the A pillar cover and route your cable in front of the airbag. Don’t take the chance that the deployment will be affected by your wiring.
