This is my first post to group.
Have just been the process of replacing windscreen wiper motor of my 100 series to come to the realisation that it was not a motor problem. It seems like the wiper spline assembly is really ceased up and is grinding quite badly making a very unnerving groaning sound. I have tried spraying some iinox in and around the spline cylinder to lubricate it but has not stopped the dry grinding noise.
I have removed wiper arm and nut off spline but that's about all that seem to be removable. Accessing the assembly seems to be virtually impossible with everything hidden inside firewall. Anyone have any ideas on how I can rectify the problem?

I started pulling the plastic cowling off the other day when I was trying to workout how to remove the wiper motor
To my dismay it was all sealed up with a metal cowling allowing no access at all to the wiper link Assy.
My cruiser is a 98 105 series if that changes things?

Oh okay. I don’t know that one. I thought it was a 100.

I've never dug into the wiper arms, but it looks like it's just under that plastic shielding.

105 is basically a 100 - solid front axle, maybe the 1fz. Wiper bits should all be the same.

Complete instructions for 100 below FYI. Can you see the linkage after pulling off the plastic cowling?

Thanks to everyone who have sent ideas. I have not tried to remove the wiper assy linkage at this point as still not sure whether it will all come out through the hole where the wiper motor operates through. The opening doesn't look big enough for it to come through and I'm thinking it could be pretty tricky to get back in and bolted into place. Has anyone had experience in this procedure?

If there is solid metal under the plastic cowl louvers then I'm not sure how to get the linkage out. Can you post a pic of what is under the plastic cowls? Any other access panel??
