All,
I recently bought a 1998 Lx470 and well for some reason both driver and passenger side window brackets are broken. So when the window goes up it makes a snapping noise at the end and so I opened the door panels and well one of the bracket's holding the glass is broken on both sides :( so now I have never replaced a window before and I was trying to find some kind of instructions to see how do I get the window glass out? The online manual's I looked at don't have instructions either? So any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

It's pretty easy to pull the glass. There are maybe 4 screws at the bottom of the door. two screws behind 'buttons' near the front of the door. There are a few plastic clips, push the center of the donut in about 1/8 in. you will then be able to pull them out. On the arm rest pull the window controls rearward and lift the front. I think there is a bolt behind there to remove. Once you have the panel off, peel back the clear plastic. Love the window enough to see two 10m bolts that hold the glass to the lift. simply pull the glass up and out. I tried to make my own bracket with marginal success. I'm putting off spending $230 for a new window. You can't find the plastic parts not connected to the glass

It's called a window regulator and once it breaks, you need a new one. Dealer item only. Word of caution: when you replace the driver-side, you have to calibrate the "pinch" safety mechanism so the one-touch up/down works correctly. If you put the whole door panel back together before calibrating it, you have to take it all apart again.

Well i don't think it was the regulator it was the bracket attached with the glass that holds the glass on the railing. It has a U shape and basically "L I" and I got seperated from L :) so the glass was on rail from one side but from the other side it was moving back and forward causing the sound and i was told that i could not buy just the bracket i will have to buy the whole glass. So i tried my Super Glue fix today will let you guys know how it holds and i am pretty sure it will here is what i did

i started off by using normal super glue to glue the two parts together and also made a layer on top of the crack for extra strength. Then i cut a small chunk from four sides of the bracket and rapped thread around it about 15-20 layers. Then i put some more supoer glue on top this holds the threads tother and adds to the strength of thread. Then the final step was to use the small zip tie :) cna you say over kill :) but i don't want to open the door pannel again so i wanted to be extra sure. then finally to attach the glass with the bracket i used ruber adhesive as it bonds better and is soft so it would not hurt the glass. I put it in and let it cook for about 2-3 hours tested it multiple times and it works like a charm now i only did it 2-3 times i still want to give it more time to cook before i start using it on dialy basis but i think i shoudl be fine. let me know if these instrucitons are not clear enough i have to do my driver side one as well so i will take some pictures then.

thanks all for the help.

ohh and my 470 does not have the pinch control i was told they started doing that in 2001 :(

all lx470 98 and up have pinch protection. All windows and sunroof have it and you can see this by auto rolling up a window and inserting an object in the path of the window, it will stop going up and return to about 30% of all the way up.

well i did check mine and that is why i was saying it. If i jam myhand in there or any other object it stops from going up but it does not roll down. And this is the case with all the windows not just one.

That is very strange because i have a 99 and my dad owned a 98 and they both had this feature.

ohhh well you are right :) i just went out and did the pinch test and guess what i do jhave the pinch :) what i was doing wrong before was i was doing it manual and not auto. So how do i calibrate the pinch thing too not use too much force when closing the window becasue i think that is why the bracker brooke in the first place.

I do not know the answer to that question but i am sure someone on her does.
