Winch seems awfully loud and clanky.

Hooked up my Warn x8000i today, and was giving her the old test-o-rama.

It is mounted in my new ARB.

Seemed awfully loud and kind of "clanky".

It is almost new but I have never really heard this one in action before.

Is this normal? Are they usually pretty noisey?

I thought it might be because it is mounted sideways in the ARB and enclosed.

Any ideas?

No, it shouldn't be all that noisy, but it will make some noise. Have you looked to see if you've got something connected to the drum and going around inside the bumper clanking? Maybe the end of the cable?
