Hi Guys,

Am looking to make up a winch bar, the local steel merchant has CNC machining to cut plate out to the desired size, they do not have a file for a winch mount hole and slot positioning, just wondering if anyone out there has, or knows where to find CAD specific files for this, required format is either dwg or dxf.
Any help would be appreciated as have hit a brick wall in trying to find this online somewhere, thanks

Usually you would use a CAD program to draw what they want and have it cut. You could Google "free CAD software" and try one of those.

When I was a teenager 25 years ago, I made a a winch bumper for my pickup. I made it from cardboard and took the cardboard pieces to a local plasma cutter. They measured the cardboard and cut the pieces for a reasonable price. Might be another option for you.

As somebody with a business selling winch parts I have to ask- Can't you buy what you need off the shelf? Winch mounts are mass manufactured in China. They are sold below what the raw steel would cost in most areas because Chinese manufacturing uses subsidized materials.

Thanks for your reply, I had assumed that with it being a universal fitment across the majority of winches, that I would easily be able to find a file with the bolt hole, slot positioning, and size for a high/low mount winch set up, that I would be able to load into a CAD program, and move around until I had the right placement on an area that would be the size plate that I needed cut. While I was getting the plate cut, it would be so much easier to have the mount holes done at the same time rather than bringing it home and doing it by hand.
Unfortunately what is available locally has never been suitable, functionally, and with strength always lacking. The one that came with the vehicle was from a reputable manufacturer, I have already bent both sides and the scrub bars on just small nudges that happen all the time. So every bullbar I have had on my vehicles, I have made myself for that reason.
The steel merchant did tell me that they prefer a file already done that they can plug into the machine, otherwise I have to sit down with them and nut it out with someone creating the CAD file when they have the time, something I dont have much of when it takes 5 hours to drive to town, and another 5 back home, makes for a big day.

I feel like it would take a CAD beginner less time than it took for you to write that entire paragraph to sketch up a winch mount in 2d. If you just needed the holes and slot that's 30 seconds tops.

will organise a time to sit down with them and do up the file, issue still is where do I get the measurements?, only have my hand made mount setups with slightly repositioned holes to make fit, would prefer an accurate cut to start with if getting machined.
Then not a cad file, but now need a drawing of aforementioned dimensions, anyone know where I can find that?

give me some dimensions and I can do it real quickly.
thankyou for that, at present I don't have the dimensions and will have to wait until next trip to town,(5 hrs away) so I can go to one of the 4wd shops and take measurements off 1 of their bullbars, want the universal mount to take the high and low mount winch. Will be in touch when I have it.
