I saw an FJ the other day and I have to admit, it looks really cool. I have seen it in auto shows and in pictures but it is sweet to see it driving around. But then I thought.... are these going to be the new RAV4 or Honda Element. I would love to have one and have considered getting one, but not if the market is going to be flooded with them.

I would like to hear what others think of this. Does anybody know how many are being produced, etc. etc.

As far as we're concerned? Yes. As far as Toyota is concerned? No.

Supposedly, Toyota plans to put at least 45,000 units on the street during the first year of production. And like garth just said, Toyota is hardly concerned about that.

But you're right . . . . . it would be kinda disappointing to see them popping up everywhere.

I recall the initial scarcity during the introduction of both the Miata and the PT Cruiser. It was barely six months after those "rare" cars initially hit the showrooms with premium prices added on, that you couldn't go two blocks down the street without tripping over a dozen of them.

Let's hope the FJC doesn't suffer the same fate.

If I want to drive something unique, I'll take out my 40.

I'd have to guess you'll see as many of these around as you do 4Runners once they settle into the market.

if you want to buy something rare you have to spend the extra money and get something rare. You could also buy an unpolular vehicle. I just do not see a production car company like toyota producing a small nmber of something that they could sell a whole of.

lunyou

They're gonna sell every single one they make, including when the production numbers get upped next year.

Get one and mod it the way you like. Or wait a year or two and pick up a nice used one.

You could always buy an Aztec

that's what I'm worried about... the aztek... although I guess they didn't really take off. I was in the dealer today trying to test drive one and they can't even keep one there to do that. You'd think they would keep one for a test drive. The dealer said that I could sign up to buy on... I know it's a landcruiser but I still wouldn't buy one without driving it.

What do you call three Aztek's on a dealer's lot?

A lifetime supply...

Those things are fugly.

I think they are pretty much going to be everywhere. It's be a bit annoying and it'll take away a bit of the coolness factor. On the positive note my guess is that it will drive up the value of our fj-40's as people start to take notice and look back.

Wi Fj's

I talked with Max at wilde toyota in Milwaukee. He says there will be 193 fj's in an upper midwest 5 state area, hence making it more "rare".

I personally think the market will flood with 'em on the next production .

Toyota considers the FJ a nitch SUV, they are smart enough to know that a relatively small number of people outside this Kool-Aid Club, will buy. Like the Prius, they will build just enough to meet the demand. Here's the math, if every dealer in the US gets the same amount 40k production 1440 dealers that's 27 per dealer for the year.

I would hope they sell like hotcakes. And the reason is that in 25 years it'd be nice to have a large supply of replacement pieces. Much like with the 40's.
In 35 years you guys can pick over mine for parts. I'll probably be dead by then.;)

my current car is one of 800 made in its color and even less in its configuration.
but i still see them alot... however there were only about 18k of them made in 04. its not that biga deal but i have a feeling they WILL be everywhere,.
