My transfer case would pop out of 4 hi so I decided to replace the springs and ball. I replaced both the spring and ball on the side of the transfer case and then replaced the spring on top of the transfer case. I could not get the ball out of the top.

I put it back together and now it will not go into 4wd. I thought it would be a little stiffer due to the new springs but I can't for the life of me get it into 4hi.

Any ideas?

For those who did this to fix it from popping out of gear did you do both springs or just one?

Thanks

Sean

ok, so I looked in the manual and it needs to be torqued to 33ft-lbs. If I loosen the bolts up I can move it into 4 hi and low. I can torque the top bolt and still shift. Once I try to torque the side bolt I can no longer shift. I have even tried to torque it to 25ft-lbs with no luck.

It is not hard to loosen, should I just loosen the bolt when I need 4wd and tighten it back up. Over time the sping should loosen up a bit.

Any other ideas?

ok, fixed it! I now have my 4wd back. I went out Sunday to test and it never popped out. It use to pop out going over a little bump.

What was wrong? I was talking with my brother and told him how to fix the problem you can either buy a new spring or shim it out with washers, he asked me if there were any washer in there. I said no but he told me to check again. I took the plug out and hit in on the concrete, about the 3rd time two washer came out. The new spring with the two washer was too much. I am glad to have this fix as it has bothered me for a while.

Thanks
