There is negative peer pressure and positive peer pressure. I think showing to Bud would be all positive. I predict an easy morning of wheeling. Wrigley wants to go!

And besides he doesn't need to write a resume' now:)

You bored Dan???

Apparently the answer is YES. I don't think that he has any regrets though! Cruiser worked great Keith.

Thanks Harry!!
It was great to meet you!
Lots of bruised EGO's on the carnage report.
I just can't help but think that if we just massaged that line a bit more, we could have found the magic path.

It took me a couple of attempts and that was after I watched 5 other capable wheelers and rigs try different lines that didn't work. It really helped me have an advantage. And even then my engine stalled because of the vertical climb. So the last part my starter motor kept me going til I leveled out and my engine turned on again. I made it because I wheel with a great bunch of guys that school me everytime I go out with them. The new guy was the one who proved that it is all a matter of a couple of inches here and there with the right touch at the right time. Next time it could be just the opposite. But what a great day. I love it! KEEP ON WHEELIN :steer:

No brusied egos necessary:)

Three letters; LPG.
You take a HP hit but I think for how you use your rig it might be a good choice.

Lpg would work but it is 2000.00 for the conversion:eek:. I found a thread that had a link titled "How to make a Weber climb a hill". This involved plugging a fume vent with JB weld and drilling some holes, etc etc. I think I should look into a solid tune up and have someone who knows how to tune a Weber look at it before I start any mods. And besides Dan your weber didn't quit on the hill.?? I haven't changed my fuel filter and other junk I should have been doing. Maybe that will make a difference??:hhmm:

It took a lot of heel and toe action to keep it running.

Megasquirt, or an EFI conversion? Donno if they even make em for the F motors or not....

EFI conversion is basically a 3FE head on a F block I think.

I didn't realize the LPG conversion was so expensive.

Howell probably has a TBI conversion from a 4.3L v6 chevy available. I put one on my wrangler years ago. It was one of the best things I did. A Jeep 258/4.2L is a lot like a 2f, slow revving tractor motor. With the CA version, mine was only about $1200 (non CA CARB versions were cheaper). Driveability went way up and offroad it wasn't even a contest any more.

Here is their "universal" kit. You just let them know what you are putting it in and they will burn the chip to accomodate. Their service is excellent as well.

He already has a Weber so the adapter plate could probably be re-used.

I think I would do this if someone who has done it could tell me it worked and solved the problem . And it wasn't a major hassle(PITA). I just hate the computer part and the wiring. All the mods I have done are low tech bolt on stuff(crawl box, sm 420, new clutch, Rear discs, etc.) The threads on the forum are usually for the 350TBI. I will keep checking. Maybe this would be worth it.:hhmm: But, first the tune up. Not this wknd tho my middle son is graduating with his BA in Criminal Justice so we are out.

I talked to Tom at Howell today, they will do a kit specific to the Land Cruiser but don't have it on their web site. $1300

Believe me, it is night and day difference between a carb and even the simple TBI system that Howell is using. The ONLY way you will stall is if you run out of gearing on an obstacle. It will keep running even after it shouldn't (ie. on it's side when you have no oil in the pan and it's all sitting under the valve cover).

The wiring is extremely easy. The harness is labled, as soon as you lay it out, you will see that it can only be plugged in one way and none of the wire plugs will plug into a sensor they shouldn't. They are all specific to the sensor they belong to.

Just a matter of mounting the computer, fuel pump, supplying power (appropriate) to the computer, CEL light on the dash and changing out some of your fuel lines for FI rated hose.

Me and a buddy did my wrangler in a weekend in the late 90's. Another great thing is it got rid of a crap load of vacuum hoses and really cleaned up the engine bay of my Jeep.

TBI is extremely simple and robust and the only "specialized" parts that Howell uses is the chip for the computer (which is programmed for your application) and the fuel pump. Everything else, you can go to any parts store and ask for FI parts from a 1990ish 4.3l gm.

If it seems like I am pushing the conversion, I am. It was that much of an improvement.
