I had the trailer already then recently got the shell off the local classifieds. Which immediately started the fire under my posterior to build it into the poor mans adventure trailer. from here on in the costs should be minimal. Although I do need my welding gas refilled. plans include a kitchen, hot water, propane, heater, water, shower and I'm sure the list will grow.

Thank you. I hope build goes well and that I can continue using it all through the build process. It will follow behind that tacoma or my fj55 or fj60 or behind a westy. It getting towed behind a westy I think would be very funny and having the wildernest unfolded and the westy popped up will be a whole lot of tent.
The second picture shows my first addition to the trailer. Yesterday I spent a lot of time rewiring the trailer lights from tail to hitch and adding the stabilizer/leveling jacks that are removeable.

Does the shell have the tent built into it? What is the brand? Thats very cool!

What brand did you use for the rear stabilizer leg?

wildernest. google it. old school rtt. I love it. wildernest.com and a .org also. brand of jack is a RAM. 30 bucks each from local parts store. I got the 2 of them right away to use as stabilizers but still need a third for the tongue. Still dreaming up a plan on what the tongue of the trailer is gonna change to. Also need to make a run to the steel store and buy some goodies and and get my welding gas refilled.

Here is what my stab jack mount looks like without a jack. Just kind of picked a where for it to be. still need to shoot them with a rattle can.

This is a better shot with the jack. Very stoked with these. They're the 2000 lb model and have no trouble lifting the trailer a little or a lot to level it and can even take the tire off the ground for a tire change. How slick is that? Also they do rotate 90 degrees but I wouldn't trail run with them like that. It'd be way too easy to screw up the hanging handle.

Thanks for the info on Wildernest and Ram.

I just did the same thing!

I bought the trailer from a member on ExPo and then he sent me a the CL ad for the wildernest.

I need a front window for the wildernest, and I spent about 10 hours cleaning it and retreating it for waterproofing, but its coming along.

I like your stabilizer idea and I might borrow that one.

As much as I would like to make it into an actual camper with some built ins, I am going to keep it simple, cheap, and removeable so i can still use the trailer as a trailer for yardwork when I need to.

The wildernest is very stout and I have been very impressed with its build quality while working on it.
One thing I plan to do to the truck bed is cut the lower panels off. A guy on expo did that and it really cleaned up the look.

I will keep an eye on your build and I will post up when I make a change to mine.

I would just get another truckbed trailer. They're cheap. after taking the wildernest off and on a couple times you'll wish you just gotten another trailer. I bought a fullsize early 70's chevy truck bed trailer awhile ago for example for 150 bucks. I gave that trailer to my dad to take to mexico but now I have a 1953 m101 3/4 ton trailer for moving big things when I need to which was also cheap. I really hope I never have to take the wildernest off the trailer. Can you take a picture of the system thats holds those little dormer windows out? I'm missing whatever those are on my nest.
I hope to not have to cut the skirts off mine. It has pretty good clearance currently with 33's. There is a pretty good chance I may lift the trailer a bit and run 35's. The other tow rig is my fj55 that currently runs 38's but hope to run 40's but due to being poor may run 37's. So having 35's on it will make it fit between the taco and the pig just fine.
Eager to see your progress also

I agree, another trailer would be the solution, but I don't have the room for two trailers, two trucks, and her car. I am going to wait and see how our first camping trip with the Wildernest and trailer works out, and then make a decision on the direction I want to go.

I can take some pics of the hardware for the dormers, but if you go here:
http://wildernest.org/

and go to the tech section, they have a "how to" on making them.

I am glad I found your thread, I will be sure to check in on your work. That site I linked to has the original owner's manual, brochure, and an article in fourwheeler from the 80's on the Wildernest.

can you post pics from the rear after you cut the side fenders

first the empty bed.

Then the box I made as a storage box slash sleeping platform for the 9 yr old. since he's 9 I didn't think it needed to be terribly wide. So it's approximately 24 inches wide. the storage is separated into 4 compartments. the 2x4 is an anti 9 yr old roll off his bed device.

Looking good buddy! Maybe we can actually do some camping this year?? You might have a bit on an issue towing it behind the pig. That trailer looks extremely heavy :flipoff2:

finished bed box tested by 9 yr old. I think he said it would pass but barely.
