Widest tire on stock rim?

Those rims are only 6in wide so a 10.50 is probably the max I would run. 9.50s work well too.

I'll be the dissenter here. If your tire guy can fit the bead on the rim, then by all means run the tire. There's really nothing wrong with it, and some people prefer the wider tire on a narrow rim.

you sure about that doc? for buildup only, i've got 12.5 swampers on a stock 40 rim (5.5)...they fit just fine, but i think i'd be scared to drive em.

Why? Well, odviously there comes a point when the bead will not seat on the rim correctly if the tire is TOO wide, but if the bead fits...... why not?

I'm sure the stability and driving would be better on a 8" rim BUT, I had 12.50's mounted on a narrow rim while I waited for my wheels to ship and had no problems.

Stability wise, I"m not sure there would be any difference. I mean- stability is a factor of your ground contact patch area and width between patches, right? OK.. Rim width on has a VERY minimal effect on the contact patch of a tire. A VERY wide tire on a very narrow rim will pull in the sides of the contact patch a bit I'm thinking, but how much? Probobly not significant.

I say as long as you can properly seat the bead- drive it! You'll have the added benefit of being able to air down to a lower psi than a narrower tire would be able to.

My only concern would be doming (wear in the middle of the tread) and side wall roll which is slightly uncomfortable changing lanes on rutted highway.

No lift or anything? I need beefier tires on my rig, and just have the stock rims for now.

I ran these wheels on my other FJ60 that had a shackle lift and re-arched springs and there was minor rubbing in the front. But i'm in the process of putting my OME lift on and i'll have a report then on if there is any rubbing.
