Why does my traction control keep engaging while driving?

Hey guys. I have a 2005 land cruiser and there are some exit ramps I take that are downhill and turn to the right to merge onto the highway. I don't know if its because of angle or speed, but sometimes the car decides to apply the brakes to the outer wheel. It's annoying. Especially because it happens while driving and I am fully aware that the car is not in any danger of tipping. Is there something wrong with the car? How can I disable traction control? It also interferes too much if I want to go into the desert. It keeps killing my momentum.

You might have a wheel speed sensor problem. Mine had some issues with that after I had been driving in slushy snow. It was a bit more than annoying. The brake would apply hard enough to pull the LC in whatever the braking direction was. Down here in warmer country it causes the cruise control to drop out every now and then

So is this also why the traction control keeps going off while I'm in the sand or is that a different issue? I get stuck because of it

Trac activates when you get wheel spin so it sounds like it's functioning as designed when you're in sand. VSC - slip control - activates when the stability algorithm decides your vehicle is becoming, or is, unstable. It uses wheel speed (hence the comments to check tire pressures and speed sensors), steering wheel angle, accelerometers and a couple of other inputs.

Buut during the turn there is no wheel spin. The only thing that could cause it maybe is the weight shift during the turn. The speed itself wasn't abnormally high for a turn.

During a turn the outer wheels rotate faster than the inner wheels = different speeds reported, but the ecu accepts this as reasonable because of the steering angle input. If you have one or more flattish tires, or an odd sized tire, it rotates at a speed different to the others and the ecu may identify this as tire slip and instability and apply VSC braking to regain control.

I'm sure my tires were within 1-2psi of each other.

I don't know if its the car or because of the VSC, but the LC100 suck in the desert/soft sand. Also the ground clearance is pretty horrible when compared to a jeep

How can I increase my ground clearance?

My stock tire is 275/60/R18. I've already gone up to 65 but I don't know how much more I can go without rubbing

What size / kind of tire are you running?

Jeeps are lithe and light weight. Land Cruisers are "big boned" :) Put a big fat tire on a Jeep and it'll make sand look like pavement.

Oops.. doubled

You probably know this but sand and wide tires go together.

Just a guess but I think Occam's Razor applies here. It's probably an intermittent wheel speed sensor

Where I am the only tire I could get was the Michelin Latitude Tour HP

Yeah but when your VSC keeps killing your momentum, you just tend to dig into the sand

Pretty sure locking the CDL shuts off the vsc. Try that in the sand

I don't know if its the car or because of the VSC, but the LC100 suck in the desert/soft sand.

Gotta admit, that is really strange to hear. My 02' LC is an absolute soft sand monster and I have the stock Michelins on. I've never gotten stuck - in fact, I pulled out my friends stuck Tacoma (off-road package with rear locker) from some soft sand WHILE IN SOFT SAND.

I know. Honestly I kept telling everyone land cruiser is better than wranglers. But after this experience I don't know what to say.

That being said I had an LX450 and that was awesome

Yeah no issues in sand or mud here either. Tires have a lot to do with it but that's for any vehicle. LC's are heavy so they dig in faster, it takes some getting used to, but once you are really familiar with your LC it will almost never let you down.
