It's been two days. Page loading is way down. I know it isn't me. It isn't the time of day, it isn't the computer (happens whereever I go), it isn't the service provider (three different). Doesn't matter how many users.

Is there a problem? :D

5 different computers? 3 sites miles and miles apart? OK. I try.

a few people have mentioned occasional problems.....server loads are still good, but there seems to be a speed bottleneck somewheres....

one thing that helps....

get to a command prompt....run tracert www.ih8mud.com and report the results...this traces the path from you to the MUD server and can help find problems.

The host IS tweaking some things right now, and there have been occasional slow moments this week.

I ran tracert, which vanishes when it is finished, so I can't post a screenshot. It appears the longest hop reported (91 ms or so) is the last, Americaninternet or something. But there are a couple in there in the middle that just pause a while and report a * for the total time (20th hop or so).

Things seem a little faster at the moment, but not much. I did clear cookies and saved web pages. (Hope my wife doesn't decide to strangle me. ) I couldn't tell the difference right after.

My guess is spyware ..

I started a thread on here within the month .. it has a few sites listed on it that will run you thru a bunch of scans , and software installment etc . Expect to take up to 6 hrs doing it all correctly

TY

PS : Run your tracert and ping's from the prompt .. not thru run . It shouldn't shut down ... wth ?

I'll try that TY.

I have both spybot and AdawareSE, and run them regularly.

Don't know what it was that I did, or someone else did, but things are back to normal now.

Dave ,

Glad it's back to normal :)

But you still ought to dig up that thread .. wish I could remember the title . The spyware software you're running is only a tenth of the whole equation . I've spent probably 12 solid hrs over the last month tweaking my system to be streamlined ..

it's a learning thing . For instance my firewall alerts me each time an app tries to load a .dll ... sometimes I recognize them .. other times I don't and I stop in my tracks , and go researching it on the web .. did that today for a couple hrs . Then I spent another good hr writing a automated proxy script using NOTHING but highly anonymous proxy servers ... and in the last few hrs I've been configuring my email .. using PGP .. to include encryption and digital signatures .

Figure if I'm going to dick around the web as much as I am , I may as well educate myself on security a bit more .. it can only improve my position right ?

TY

PS : Now if I could only tweak my proxy script to dole out a different proxy based on what port its for .... I'm so s t u p i d ...
