I keep seeing a MINT BEYOND BELIEF FJ40 in the Tyson's, Mclean, Merryfield, area.

79 or newer, Man-It-Ant-Free aux tank, nice white paint, etc.

Anyone here?

If so, your truck puts a smile on my face every time I see it.

I saw that truck pulling into the Catholic Church on Woodburn Road a while back. My first FJ40 was a white, late model '78. Man, sure wish I had kept that truck.

I belive the Cruiser you are referring to belongs to a guy who owns a valet parking company in Vienna. I briefly talked to him outside Colvin Run, and you are right it is clean!

Nice truck huh. I've seen him a few times and it looks better every time.

There is also a very nice Black FJ40 in Vienna with a factory soft top tail gate and I see a late model 40 with a OEM soft top from time to time.

I also see a young kid driving a tan mid 70's 40 in NICE shape as well.

I saw a "kid" in Franconia driving an early 70's white, rust free, stock FJ40. I asked him about it....he said that his Uncle gave it to him for his 16th birthday!!!

My uncles only gave me charlie horses.

It would be interesting to know the percentage of FJ40 owners in the DC metro area that are NOT in any way involved with the TLCA/CLCC.

Soon?

(Sorry, you made it too easy) :D:D:D:D

BTW, you are younger than me.

My sarcasm apparantly did not filter through.

Curmudgeon I am

There are a ton of Cruisers all over and back in the day we had very large meetings. I think this is because of where the meetings were - centered around where people live. I have voiced this oppinion many times. Alexanria Toyota is in the armpit of the DC area.

Maybe it's time to break up the club into two subchapters - MD/DC and VA with some combined events. When the club had meetings further west a lot more people came in for the VA suburbs.

No joke, at times there were 50 to 60 people at meetings.

That's okay, apparently I'm a "grouch". That's my wife speaking.

Where were the meetings held?

Arlington is a bit far for us Marylanders. Some place closer to the River (Tysons?) would be a bit more accessable.

My wife's local USPCA chapter meets once a month and a member hosts the meeting at their house. Seems to work well. At least some members don't always have to be on the road for an hour. I'm not complaining, just pointing out the reality of the situation.

CLCC met for years on Herndon VA but then moved to Tyson's to be more accomodating to the Marylanders.

When Lance and crew took over the club they moved the meetings to Alexandria because they all lived there.

Sorry....South Park reference to the West Side....nobody got it.

To answer the question....I think that a West chapter of CLCC is a great idea...especially if it helps get more folks participating in the club.

Don't clubs usually split into two chapters when they get too big? Don't get me wrong, I think we're doing a lot better with attendance than we did a year or two ago, but I think there are other things we can do to draw in the other cruiser folks.

But it's a slow process. Part of that effort has been the roving Happy hour thing. It did really well in Rockville, not so good at Tysons, but we'll get there. Maybe if we see an increasing number of people coming to the HHs in different areas, we can use that to justify moving the meetings around too. Our main concern about that has been not wanting to confuse people.

No traffic, no work obligations, etc.

My 2 cents - this is my biggest trepidation. Distance isn't a problem for me, but the traffic is just awful around here almost any time during the week. An hour+ drive after a long day of work really puts a damper on my enthusiasm. Weekends are far more relaxing (and open!). Since we had such a great turnout for the Bethesda Happy Hour, I think we should have the meetings there! :D Again, my 2 cents.

Not that anyone cares, but I would be inclined to be active if the meetings were in Tyson's, Reston, Herndon, etc. Alexandria is impossible for me to make after work since I live in Leesburg.

Okay, we have a consensus, we're meeting at John's house from now on! John - what will you be serving? I'll bring the foie gras and Sauternes. John, do you have a medium sized copper searing pan? :D :D :D

(for those humoristically impaired, this is a joke - I can't afford foie gras)

You bring the foie gras and I'll crack open a bottle of Crystal that I've been saving. Just kidding of course.

All joking aside, the only thing I'll serve up is good coffee or directions to the Inn where you can get a great breakfast for about $5.00

I'd actually rather have a driveway full of Cruisers on a Sunday AM than drive to Old Town after a 12 hour workday with 3 hours of travel time...I used to do this with the BMW MC guys, sometimes we'd have two dozen bikes in the driveway. The neighbors loved me.

Maybe that's not a bad idea.
