Let's say I have a friend... just wondering about Huntsville and where to live. This friend may be heading that way.
He's ideally looking for someplace that would allow him to work on his piece of shunt wheeling rig.

Who in here is in that area?

Depends on where "your friend" will be working. Madison would be a place to look first.

If he does good, then on that side of Huntsville....
rental... preferably a garage that can accomodate wrenching... loud angle grinding... think Madison has that?

yeah I know at least one place in Madison that would allow that.. but it will take your "friend" forever to get from Madison to south Huntsville on a a workday unless your "friend" could cut through Redstone (which since 2001 is not that easy).. depends of your "friends" budget but I would bet that your "friend" could find a house in Huntsville/South Huntsville for rent that wouldn't break the bank..

this "friend" is trying to get on with a place across the road from Madison Square Mall in that park...
What's north of there?

There is a lot of cheap real estate in that area... There is alot of area just out of town on that side that is unincorporated... Triana is dirt cheap but its south of 565 so it may take your "friend" a few minutes longer to get in to work than if he/she stayed north of hwy 72...
Madison wouldn't get you any closer and the prices are higher. Great if you have kids to send to school, but that would be the only incentive for me. I would much rather be in an unincorporated area of the county.
Check Harvest or Monrovia for areas.. Even if you get as far out as Athens your "friend" is only looking at maybe a 30 min commute to work..
There is an old farm boy mechanic off of Capshaw road out there named Art Lynch he has a pretty sweet shop and is one who (if you shoot the sh** enough with) will let you use his facilities on nights and weekends for a small fee.

If all else fails tell your friend my folks have a barn they will rent for 400 a month it even has a crapper.

this friend says living in a workshop type place with a rollup door is actually ideal. Doesn't mind that one bit as long as it's AC/heated.
No kids, no wife, small dog, ugly ass truck that he eventually wants to be a rock bouncer.

E I gots my old college roomate and berry good friend in that area... let me know if your friend and my friend need to chat.

BTW he has a 77 Bronco that I need to help him get ROCK ready.

.......:flipoff2:.....

Bomar. I need your help on another matter... I been thinking about it lately... me thinks you the right mane for the job.

I don't know if they still have it but they use to have a garage on base that you could use. My brother lives in Athens and commutes to base every day.

Side note, the McDonalds on 72 use to be on the outskirts of town when I was a kid. When I was in Highschool, I tried getting my parents to buy some land when some cotton fields went up for sale....its now research park $%#$%.

I work on "the base"....and commute back and forth from Cullman. If you want a place to work on your stuff I think I would look out in the county. Madison is growing fast as well as points north up towards Merdianville / hazel green. Traffic is getting worse if you are coming in on 72 like from Athens or on 431 / 231 from points north. Its not crazy but getting worse.

If you commute in on 565 is not bad coming into gate 9 area in the am, traffic pretty thick off of 565 during the "rush hour"..

Madison area is growing crazy...just north of huntsville metro area is growing fast too. If were me I would rather live away from all the new crazy neighborhoods popping up left and right, that were once cotton fields.

So how did it go (for your friend)

He thinks he done good.
Waiting to find out.
Where should he live? Anyone know of any rentals in Madison or near the Reasearch Park?

I grew up in HSV, but it's been 10 yrs since I've lived there (still have lots of family in the area).

Downtown HSV is probably the cool zone - just had a buddy recently live in the 5 points area - pretty cool part of town - mostly smaller homes, but pricing isn't bad.

South HSV is nice (i like the Whitesburg Dr area) - I grew up in the Camelot Subd (further south off Bailey Cove).

Not a big fan of Madison - super suburbia w lots of traffic - but pretty close to Res. Tri Park.

I've always liked Gurley - it's kinda far out (20-30min to the Park) but have had good exp. out there, but it's def the country.
Got a good work buddy living in Athens - he grew up out there, so not sure he'll every move, but he likes it!

I'm on the south side of Decatur and work at Old Madison pike its a 30 minute drive mostly interstate, and the wife works at Huntsville hospital a 40 min drive. If I had it to do over I would pick Limestone, Morgan, Jackson, or Marshal county all are cheaper than Madison Co and its really not a bad drive. Gurley is a good cheaper spot.
