I can offer beer.

I am in Savannah, GA... yeah, the "Midnight In the Garden of Good and Evil" place. I have all the parts, most, if not all, of the tools and am ready to go... I'd just rather do it with an extra set of hands and eyes.

PM or respond to the thread.

Thanks in advance.

More than happy to help you virtually - the knuckle rebuild is fairly straightforward. just take your time, follow the manual, buy a bunch of cleaning supplies including latex gloves, and go to it.

if you need real time help, post up to this list and one of us will respond accordingly.

Drive down to St. Augustine and I'll help ya do it in a heart beat. I had my kunckles apart more times than I can count. I got all the stuff ya need to do it. We could have done in a day... I am a few hours away but your more than welcome to drop on in.

There is a guy in the 40 section in Sav. hes doing a restore on his bj40 I think his SN is "Heavylift"

I dont know him personally but he seems to be very knowledgeable. I think there is at least one guy in the 25 forum from Sav. as well.

Maybe check out the cruiser assistance club too. ??

Jason,

Here's my recommendation ...

Get ahold of Lowtide.

Set up a weekend to go down for a visit.

Get your knuckles done.

That's what I'd do ...

Best to all,
Cahil

P.S. Oh yeah ... bring that georgeous wife of your's along and she can bask in the sunshine rays of St. Augustine beach while you do the knuckle rebuild. Family trip !!!

I've been re-building mine for the last two evenings, and should finish tonight.

Mechanically it is not that bad of a job. Cleaning everything has been the serious PITA of this project. I've gone through many cans of brake cleaner, engine degreaser, the purple degreaser stuff, tons of nitrile gloves, and 4 rolls of scott towels.

Pressing out and in the bearing races is also a bit of a challenge, but it is not too bad.

Of course the entire job is not too bad, just messy and long.

Oh and before you start this pressure wash the hell out of your front axle, try to get as much gunk off of the knuckles as possible. I have regretted that since just about the begining of this.

And you will prolly want to remmber the other stuff I am forgetting.....
