I was contacted for an interview as a Park Ranger at Huntington Beach State Park. Just wanted to check with you guys here and see how that area was. If I got the position they would provide housing on site. Whats the nearest city? How far is this from Myrtle Beach and Charlston?? Any help would be great! Thanks, WM

my bad you said Huntington Beach not Hunting Island Ooooops

Myrtle Beach is 90 minutes from downtown Charleston...maybe two hours with traffic in Mt Pleasant. you are closer to dirty Myrtle than Chucktown...or you will be.

Wrong park!!!!!
Huntington Beach is almost to Myrtle Beach.
Right next to Murrels Inlet. About 25 mi. South of MB.
We are camping at Hunting Island S.P. past Beaufort

Thanks guys. So how is the area around that park?? Pretty populated or what? Oh, and the position does not include housing so thats a big factor. I would probably have to go at least 30mins off the coast to afford a house in my price range.

Is someone already staying in the ranger house at Huntington? Last time I was in there they had a house for the head ranger. You will like the area. I think you should be able to find a killer deal in this area right now.

Not to turn sales guy or anything, but my wife has her sales liscense. She doesn't use it, we just use it for my personal property because she is a school teacher. If you don't trust any full-time agents down here, let me know if I can help you search. Even if you have an agent down here, I can help keep them honest.;) Good luck with the interview.

Nobody really lives near there. It is in the "No man's land" between Murder Beach and Pawley's Island. Beautiful area, though. I live near there in Surfside.

Yes, the park and gardens are in no-mans land, but Litchfield is only about a mile down the road. Pricey though. I actually stay in Conway, which is about a 30 min. drive to Murrells Inlet, then about 10 min. to Huntington. Your only options for inland living along with decent distance to Huntington is Georgetown or Conway/Carolina Forest area.

And both Conway and Georgetown are great too. Just my .02 worth and not nearly the traffic that Dirty Myrtle has to offer. Georgetown would be fairly close to the park too. Love the big tuna bar on the river in Georgetown.

Inland, yes...but the Surfside/Garden City/Murrell's Inlet area is beautiful. It is like being in Myrtle Beach without all of the trouble of living in Myrtle Beach. No traffic or tourists (compared to Myrtle) and you NEVER have to get on highway 501, which is really the best part!
Only about a 10 min drive from HBSP
