I will be. It'll be a Feb trip though is my guess.

That's cool.....I got my spacers today and all my brake stuff.....hope to have it in this weekend.

Still don't have my springs yet....should be next week. Feb. will give me time to put everything together and make sure it's all right.

Hey Brian, might be doing a H2H run on Friday, the 26th of Jan. if you're interested.

Link isn't working for me.....synopsis?

Sean

Interesting.....It's not working for me either now.........

The rumor is that some BLM guy (Francisco)? has taken it upon himself to close some of the trails in the Florence Junction area--Woodpecker, Axle Alley., and a couple of others I believe........without the proper public input etc..........folks are expressing outrage and organizing for reaction........

John, if you are looking at Feb., the only weekends I can make it are:

Feb 9/10/11th, or Feb 23/24/25th.

Checking now with Joe (possible leader) and requested these dates. Why in the hell I want YOU along with ME on a trail like THIS I don't know. The crap you get me to do on the trail will KILL ME one day. I can't image Elvis in the 80 with YOU there. :D

Hey John, the 100 looks good up on that little rock there. I don't thing I got a shot of your face though...that was great.

The deal with Fransisco, on one of the maps that they are using in all of the BS "justify why the trail is open" debate, he marked Upper Woodpecker, Axle Alley, and one or two other trails as closed. Probably hoping that no one would catch him, and they would end up being closed in the end. These trails are open...he just marked them as closed on the map.

Sean, I'm off on the 26th....might be interested in H2H. Who are you running it with? I'm probably going to be slower than most through there, and will need some help on the first obstacle. I have to work at it a bit to get my bumper, then my steering box over that first big rock....

This whole "justify" thing is BULL****. Simply put, it's a wash. No real, long term damage is occuring and the washes have been thoroughfares since the 1880s. Ahhh....but I'm preaching to the choir.

Anyway, Brian.....why are you driving OVER that big rock at the first squeeze (assuming that's the one you're talking about)? Your TJ should fit between it and the wall without any problems.....or are you talking about the smaller ledge/step between that 4' rock and the wall?

***EDIT*** Don't know yet for sure who's going to run it. My Mom's coming out and wanted to go wheeling in the new buggy. I'd imagine Dave with the black TJ and Larry in his buggy will come out, but I'm not positive.

Sean, I can get around the big bastard, it is the one right after it that gives me problems.

If it is just a small group that doesn't mind moving a bit slower than normal (I know you mentioned that those guys move pretty quick), I'll come up for it.

Gotcha.....I was thinking it was a ledge or step.

As long as we unstack anything we put in to get you over, I don't see a problem.

I'll check and see if anyone would mind, but even if they do, I don't mind hanging back with ya.

Wheeling, IMO, with a lot of guys has gotten too fast paced and anxiety inducing. I got into the sport also for the challenge, but also to relax, have fun and meet people. Lately, with really hard obstacles and constant threat of breakage and damage.....it's just not as fun as it used to be and I miss it.

Oh well....now I'm just babbling. I'll letcha know what I find out asap.

At the below pic the Unimog almost creamed his ride while Joe did awesome.

Not to slight Joe in the least (IMO, he's one of the best drivers I've ever seen) but Mogs aren't generally known for being good descenders. The weight bias is so skewed towards the front, that dropping off anything remotely steep usually skies the rear end. Climbing is a completely different story. With the front engine directly over the front tires and no real weight to speak of from the cab back, once the front end is pushed up an obstacle, the rear climbs it relatively easily.

As top heavy as they look, they have a surprisingly low CoG and can sidehill better than most anything factory.

I'm considering coming along just to take photos. Questions:
1) Where is Elvis, Florence Junction area?
2) How long is the trail?
3) Can I park my own ride nerby and bale-out if need be?

Thanks, Lee

I hear ya. I distinctly remember my first trip to AZ when we spent a full day goofing off on lower ajax. There were a ton of vehicles, we all BS'd and talked smack all day long...enjoyed the hell out of it. The last time I ran lower, I blew through it faster than the guys driving down the road (we were coming out of Upper).

Remember though, most of that was out spotting for people and that just rolls into the goofing off and talking smack. Now, we're so used to the trails that we just run through them already knowing the lines and without even getting out of the vehicle.

Well, I heard from Joe. He's up to another run at Elvis though February is full. He also cautioned me about vehicles having very stout bumpers on their 80-series. He and I are OK as they're frame cut, shortened and 3/8 steel fab'd. He said all of the weight will be on the bumper during that big drop.

I think for a "wagon run" I'd like to wait until Joe's free and I speak to others about the build of their 80's. When ready I'll rejuvinate (or start a new one if you-all go ASAP) this thread. It did taKe some wind out of my sails when Joe said he had to take most of the bypasses.

Running trails and being forced to take bypasses is a great way to get motivated for more mods!
I kinda got the idea that this trail was a tough one.

Saw Joe's Fj80 tonight in Mesa at the UPS store on Broadway and Lindsey. I love that thing. Can't believe after all these years, it's still in such good shape. Great testament to his skill as a driver.
