Hey,

I'm trying to get organized to do this 2F-E project and will be cleaning/looking at the head I have for the project. In the event I want to get some "work" done to it, who is the "go to guy/shop" for this type of work.

Thanks in advance for any insight...

John West Auto in Raleigh. He does all types of work and has his own machine shop in house. John also builds race engines and has restored L/C's in the past. He also use to work for (Goodman) Toyota years ago and has great knowledge of Toyotas. 250-0825 I think.

I'll be curious to see what they charge to rework a head. I may be looking at getting mine done in the not so distant future to get the compression higher to take advantage of the high octane content of propane.

I'll follow up with details once I get the job going. The "over-the-phone, not-seen-what-I'm-in-for" quote was $208 to pressure test, re-surface, "valve job" (+ parts if deemed in need of replacement) but I'm sure I forgot something else.

I've still got to put an action plan together so I can see when I need to get them the head...

I heard/witnessed bad experience on a toyota F motor rebuild with them from a neighbor's 55 so I am partial to using them...however I have heard of many others positive experiences. I had carquest do mine over off germantown road and was very happy on my (used to be) 55. I came out at $336 and that was magnaflux, pressure test, new springs, valve seats, valve guides and valve regrind, as well as milled surface.

That might have actually included a charge to magnflux the original head as well. Went with the 1.5F after realizing the original was cracked.
