I have an 89 FJ62, and it recently starting to spew white smoke on the drivers side of the engine bay. Upon further research into the exact location, it now appears to be coming from the direction of the EFI / air manifold, and has a "sweet" smell to it which leads me to believe that it is coolant burning (that and Cruiser Dan's help....)

More symptoms are that it only starts to smoke roughly 15-20 minutes into the drive when the engine has warmed up. I unfortunatly do not know if the coolant level has dropped significantly, as it just started and did not want to continue driving until I have this resolved. I noticed this morning when I was checking to see if the Drain cock was letting the coolant out, that there is white smoke coming out of the tailpipe with a little liquid. I have not noticed this to the level that it was this morning.

I have ruled out the following:
1. Coolant hoses going into the throttle body - these are not leaking.
2. Drain cock - it appears to be wet, but no smoke is coming from the lower section of the engine

Any suggestions on what to try next?

David

have you done anything to the fuel rail or injectors. after replacing my injectors there was a nasty white smoke coming off of the minifold because we forgot a gasket and fuel was leaking out and burning up.

same thing happened to me friend when we seated the injectors wrong and fuel leaked.

check for dripping gas.
