I am heading to Canyonland and will be doing the white rim trail in about 10 days. i will have to check my permit to see which camp sites i will be in. but does anyony have any ideas about must see areas or shory hikes to do? Any high points that i should not miss or special things i should look out for?

IntrepidXJ just posted an awesome write up in the adventures section of Expedition Portal. That might be a good place to start.

Was just there about 2 weeks ago but only drove down to Potato Bottom (about 8 or so miles in) for camping. The whole road is probably a 2 day drive at least if you want to enjoy it. It's rocky, steep and doens't have a ton of room for passing in some spots. Also terribly, terribly hot, even at night :(

Also check out an excellent report on fjcruiserforum.com by Old Cruiser. Superb photos and lots of detail on things to checkout. Lots of info available at the visitors center too.

Just a quick update. We completed the White Rim a few weeks back. It was a beautiful trip!. It was our rifts off road/SHORT expo style trip we have done. We are traditionally backpackers so traveling light and living in the back country was easy. But i was worried my girlfriend would not like it. She LOVED Canyonlands and had a blast in the fast and muddy sections. The 4wheeling is very mild but it has a few steep sections that should keep a novice entertained. But most of it is slow going dirt roads and beautiful scenery. I would highly recommend it as a 1 or 2 night over night trip to introduce a novice or wife to the overland travel type thing.

Thanks for reporting back. Doing it in April!
