Hey all. If this has been covered elsewhere, hopefully someone can point me in the right direction.

When I purchased my 1999, it had vertical weatherstripping of some kind on the driver side of the windshield (1st picture below). The passenger side does not have any (2nd picture below).

So, I hear a whistling on the driver side once I reach about 40 miles per hour. I would imagine the malformed piece of weatherstripping is the cause.

The question: Are these vertical pieces important? Should I be replacing this driver one and getting one for the vacant left side? If so, where can I find these?

Thanks!

I get the same thing on my 2000, I get whistling (mostly when the weather is cold, oddly). Both of mine are a bit malformed/warped. I'm curious as well.

It’s the same part number for right and left: 75543-60020. I replaced them when I got my windshield replaced for $14 each from McGeorge Toyota.

They aren’t critical, but I think their purpose is to cover the rivets and cut down the wind noise.

I don't have those on either side and no sound what so ever even at 80 MPH. The truck came without those and I'll probably keep it that way to eliminate any potential corrosion around the windshield.

Is there any rubber trim on the sides of your windshield? Or just glass and metal?

The parts I was referring to above are inserts for larger rubber trim pieces held to the body with rivets. They don’t actually contact any metal where they could cause corrosion, but the larger pieces do.

I have the same problem on my passenger side. I thought about running a bead of silicone down it to cut down the wind noise but just haven't yet.

Looks like you can get them shipped and sold by Amazon. Thanks for the part number.

I do wonder how critical they are. I wonder how long my truck was without the passenger side. I live in Denver so there will definitely be some snow on my windshield this winter (during the day; sleeps in the garage) and I'd hate that to cause any issues if I have no rubber trim.

How long have you had your truck sans vertical trim? Sounds like it hasn't been a problem.

So do you have the malformed piece of trim on each side?

I JUST CLOSED THE HOLES USED TO HOLD THE RIVETS WITH SILICONE.

There is probably a rivet hole leaking air. Pull that inside cover off and inspect the rivet holes. It really needs proper sized rivets when the side molding is installed. I recently had a whistle from around my window area, but I tracked it down to a side mirror, I think the gasket has dried up somewhere on it.
