I am less than 100 miles into a complete fluid change. I put amsoil synthetics in tranfer case, transmission and both differentials of my '88 FJ62 with 228K. It has been properly maintained according to the records I received when I purchased it. Now at speeds of 40 MPH and above I have a low pitch whine that goes away as soon as I let off the gas. Any ideas? Thanks

Not a high pitch whine. More of a drone sound. As stated earlier it goes away when you get out of the gas. Have not had it over 75 mph but it was there at that speed.

Hey I just thought I would chime in, Have you checked your flanges? If they are a bit loose you will get a slight wine when you get on the gas. Might not be the prob but it never hirts to check. Hope you get it figured out....Ben

Before a rebuild I would find a good drivetrain shop and see what they think. They will have a cool lift that allows them to bring your truck to highway speeds while they stand under the truck and find the noise.

It is strange that it showed up at the time you did your fluids. I can't think of a reason that fluids would make it happen.

Is it possible that your front driveshaft is engaged? I know the vacuum solenoids will burn out and if someone (without your knowledge) engaged the 4WD button on the dash and then disengaed 4WD, it may be that you are in 4HI. I suppose you would get the dash light indicating you are in 4WD though.

Just a thought.
