I have a 2003 and am about to install the USA Spec BT-45 TOY to address that exact issue. Just got the package today and now am working on organizing the YT video and any DIY threads I can to make it happen. I am not a stereo/electrical/ wiring guy, so it should be both stressful and rewarding!

Nice choice. I just got one and you have more then double the miles and it looks just as clean. That was well cared for. Be interested in the outcome of Bluetooth install also, been reading all the vline, BT, and vais threads. Didn't know there was such a difference between Bluetooth phone calls and Bluetooth streaming. With an 03 I don't have either right now.
That's a nice Rig! my vote would have been the '04 as well, it's beefier. you've discovered the (only, IMHO) tangible downside of the GEN3 nav/climate setup for which there's no simple aftermarket upgrade path yet, but as teambell states the BT-45 (or the near-equivalent GROM TOYNB3) will provide B/T streaming & hands-free calling

thanks guys. I really like the 04. Sadly, so does my son. turns out he is going to get the 04 and I keep my 01. Selling his 97 lx450 now. I got the short end, but he has more safety feature now. Just means I will keep looking for my own.
I have an 00 and 05. my 05 is identical to yours. love them both. i woulda voted for the 04 also. be interested to see what you do with the BT. im looking to do the same
