O.K., so i'm interested to see who on the board will take the plunge first. So, first one to buy it, post a picture with the sales tag in the window and you beside it and you will win dinner on me at GSMTR this year.

Gumby, is that Carmen Electra in your avatar?

Yea, i'd love to see one wheeled. That would take some real cahonas.

I am absolutely ready to buy one, if Toyota delivers a product that is atleast comparable to a Taco, then I'm in. I'd be trading in a 2003 4Runner for the convertible Cruiser. I like the looks and I think they still care about building a quality vehicle. Maybe it won't be as heavily built as the earlier FJ's, but then again about 1975, they kinda went cheap"er" on some of the components. Atleast thats how I see it.

For all of the naysayers who state "it won't be anything close to an original simple FJ", neither was your later 40, your later 55, your 60 or your 80. Not to mention the mall-rat 100. I have given into the fact that time creates advances in technology and productivity. I'll take a well equipped 80 over a 55 anyday of the week. I wouldn't trade my 100 series for twelve 40's. Then again I wouldn't trade my 1980 40 for twelve J**ps. Maybe thats just me.

I'm not trying to take anything away from those who have the older Cruisers, but I'll take a/c and creature comforts even if it has IFS because I know it rides better, handles better and is new enough for me to be one of the first to modify and see what its worth. Sure it may not be as capable in many regards as an older cruiser but I think it'll deliver on the performance end. If not I could always trade it in on a 2012 ri-incarnation of an "iron pig" :)

:Thinking to self: I'm just hoping I don't have to eat crow on Feb 9th.

I have to add something to this.

Although what Toyota is going to present to us will most definitely be less of a simple creation, I am happy to see that producing autos has led a few automakers to be financially capable of creating something thats relatively utilitarian. Low cost and performance minded leaves a glimmer of hope.

Now I may not have to go to Brazil and buy a 2001 "Banderante".

Cheers, and please don't take any hard feelings away from my prior post.

Very good points UltraFJ. You are correct the later 40's are not simple vehicles at all. My '81 is a nightmare of vacuum hoses, wires, etc...all things that were being retrofitted into a older simpler design. A 80 is FAR cleaner setup engine-wise and vehicle-wise than a 40 ever was, that's not to say better, but cleaner. The 100 is another notch or two above the 80 in fit, finish, clean design, etc.

Also for those that think the 40 is the last real Cruiser, look at a 80 rear driveshaft sometime, it drawfs anything the 40 ever had (possibly because it needs to be stronger with the weight, but the fact remains, it's huge and as overbuilt even on the 80 as anything ever was on the 40).

Remember this FJ is not a 'Land Cruiser', that name started Toyota and they have made that their signature vehicle with much pride going into every vehicle. This is a FJ Cruiser, think hip, fun, 18 yr old kid jumping it off sand-dunes (ok a 28 yr old kid (me) jumping it) :D

too late for me, I just bought a 100. But I am dying to see what the production model looks like and what the specs are. I understand the pricing won't be released for a little while longer.

How about the first shop that buys one (tax writeoff ;) ) and builds it into a trail rig?

I like how you think ;)

lets take up a collection and get this party started... It could be a IH8MUD collective! 300 members at 100.00 a pop In the end that 100.00 will buy you a raffle ticket to win the FJ after the test runs ;) C'mon Woody Let's do it :bounce:

convertible?

where does it say this?

Sorry, I should have been more clear, if it wheels like a Taco and has a removeable top, and doesn't look ridiculous then I'm on it.

I should've said removeable top not convertible. All this talk about the Corvair coming back has me delirious.

Doug

Corvair....
