VT, all I can say is that with the 690, the depth was the problem, not the diameter. Look for a spot where you can easily access the drain at the bottom, as well as change the filter easily. My BJ70 has free space behind the left headlight, in front of but below the mouth of the air intake. I had to fabricate a bracket to mount it there, but I doubt you'll find a free piece of firewall or fender wall so fabrication is almost a given.
Yeah, same trouble with mine. Old thread revival! I thought it would be half the size that it is and planned to put it behind the battery.....not going to happen unless I swap to a more shallow filter than what I got. These things are HUGE.
I think it depends on the model too. I picked up a 490 because it was on clearance.....I just realized today that I should have checked the specs. I think this is the largest one they make. It's as big as the biggest beer stein I have seen. And now I notice that it's a 2 micron. Guess that's what I get for jumping on a "deal" without seeing it first hand in a store.
Best bet on 60 I could tell was on the fender. Using a bracket to push it out over top the IP pump. That allow access thru the fender skirt for draining.
They are just too big. And 2 micron is too small. If I ran that small in microns I think I would want an electric pump back at the tank to help get it thru the filter easier. Otherwise it's too much restrictions on an old mechnical pump...
On an FJ60 - mount is just left of heater valve, with a fabbed bracket. That way when you drain off the water, it'll spurt right on the exhaust -just past the turbo and you can think, ok diesel doesn't flash, I'm ok. Bob
FYI - replumbed from tank on opposite frame rail and added a pusher pump. & it's a PIA to change the Amsoil filter.
60 probably has more room than my 40. It's getting cramped already....so I think I have grounds to return this. It's too big, and I have to agree with BB, it would need a pusher pump, and that's just too much complication.
I may wind up just mounting a goldenrod water blocker only and then keep the factory filter.
if space is an issue, why not mount in a Delphi / CAV filter assembly as a pre filter before your LC Fuel filter assembly? Most Kumo tractor shops have a variety of them.
