Hi all,
I have a 75 Series troopy with a 2H engine. I'm trying to figure out where to mount an air con pump that i will use as an air compressor and of course where to drive it from. Left side (standing at front of car looking at motor) is the injector pump. right side there is the air con and alternator. I found 2 threaded holes i might be able to use right at the bottom of the motor on the right side. but not sure how to drive it.
Anybody already done this and could perhaps point me in the right direction?

Thanks

Matt

the compressor is usually mounted under the alternator, so the two holes you found would be it, but to drive it all toyota diesels i have seen with nippondenso air have a 2 belt system. One belt for the alternator and water pump which is not touched, and a whole new belt just for the compressor. There is an extra v-pulley bolted to the crank right in front of the fan v-pulley, and a steel frame which bolts to the timing-gear cover bolts that holds an adjustable pulley for tightening the belt.

I dont have this on my hj atm, so i havn't looked too closely, but from the quick glimpses i have had at other cars it looks to be similar to the way its set up on my 40. Good luck finding parts! Just try and find a whole assembly at the wreckers.

cheers

the crank has 3 pulleys. one is for the power steering on the drivers side of the motor.
one for the water pump and alternator as you mentioned. and the third is for the aircon which sits above the alternator.

My problem is where to mount this compressor and where to get drive from more importantly. Keep in mind that the vehicle already has aircon and i am installing an additional aircon unit to take care of pumping air.

One suggestion i have had on another forum is to mount it side by side with the aircon unit but this cant be done as i have my second battery next to the original aircon unit.

i didn't realise you had air-con working and wanted to keep it. From the looks of it, you have problems. The only space you have is under the alternator, but you will need to fab up the brackets yourself, then just get a longer belt for the air-con or power steering and run it from the existing pulleys.

Most people that install the endless-air type compressor do not have air-con, so just use the standard mounts. So its time for you to get creative with a welder and post some pics here, or get an electric. Sorry i cant be more help, but it looks like you are on your own.

good luck with the fab.
