Where did you find your LX470 or LC?

Apologies if I've posted this in the wrong forum, I couldn't quite figure out the best place to post this discussion topic...

So I recently caught the LX470 bug after initially looking for a 4runner, which led me to the Sequioa, which led me to LCs and now to LX470s. I'm on a pretty steep learning curve and trying to take it all in, while also searching FB market place, Autotrader and Ebay for used one's. I've read some people recommending to only buy from individual owners, but from what I've seen so far that's about 2% of the market. I'm in the NJ/NY area btw.

Curious how you went about finding your LX470s and LCs?

I was worried about rust as well. The PO sent me some detailed pictures and I quickly noticed the leaking valve covers, leaking power steering reservoir and figured with all those leaks and it coming from South Carolina I would take a chance. Glad I did!

I looked them up and gave them a call, but they only sell Japanese cars made for the Japanese market- steering wheel on the wrong side:) Looks like beautiful niche stuff though.

It looks like Bring A Trailer has a few nice ones, but I don't feel confident enough at all in my knowledge to feel comfortable buying sight unseen. I don't even like buying clothing sight unseen😂

Ugh...sorry to hear that, but good to know- thank you for sharing. I'm going to go ahead and close that browser now...haha. Sounds risky af

I actually went and looked at one yesterday that popped up on CL, which is suprising because 99.5% of LX470 listings there are from dealerships and aren't LX470s. The truck was in pretty good shape, but after I left I realized I didn't really love the color and I think I would have pined for a color I want. It also seemed to be lacking good records for service over the last 10 years or so. $12,500 for a 2005 with 180k miles and decent, but not great shape, no rust.

That's a pretty good price assuming it hasn't been completely neglected. I'd recommend getting a pre purchase inspection though.

Yeah, I think so too. I actually had a pre purchase inspection scheduled at a Lexus dealership and seller was going to drop it off for me, which was a really good sign. After seeing it though I realized that I really want a darker color and knew I wouldn't be 100% happy with it as I'm hoping to buy something I can keep for a long time. I thought about buying it and using it until I find the one I really am in love with, but not sure it's worth all the hassle to do that. I think I will hold out a little longer and keep searching.

If anyone is interested in a 2005, Sand Dollar LX470 with 180k, $12,500 this is the car.

I can give you the carfax and let you know my thoughts on it.

For a NY vehicle it is very hard to imagine that there's no rust underneath. Lack of pictures to verify this is also a red flag.

i did a quick check when I looked at it and there was some rust underneath, but it didn't look too bad. I was going to ask to have it looked at during the inspection. To be honest there were a few other potential red flags like lack of service records on hand, but I also didn't pursue too much further once I decided the color wasn't right for me.
Also to be fair the interior condition while not too bad wasn't that nice either- only the bottom of front seats were reupholstered, and it was with a pebble grain that looked kind of off, stained carpets, etc.
