When is it safe to switch the Mobil 1?
Are there any break-in additives that have to be run through for 5,000?
Audi/VW would do this to break in seals etc so you could not change there oil for 5,000.

What is the word on Toyota oil change?

A freind of mine is a retired regional rep for the NW (Toyota), and he is running his to 1K miles for the first change, them changing it with Dino still.

Then he will run it about 3K, then after that he will switch to synthetic.
He says that is a good practice for the rings to seal firmly first before getting off of the dino.

That sounds like a good plan! They sure made it easy to change oil on this rig!

Yes, I am going nutzo waiting for mine.
It should be here about the middle of june.

Pretty impressive rig, this will also be my first rig with a locker, can not wait to use it on some of the trails I have gone on before where I slipped a lot.

My dealer - DCH Toyota Simi Valley Ca. - had me go in at 1K. Next one is scheduled for 5K.

The one at 1K was no charge.

I think the old school idea was that the first oil change on a new car/truck or a rebuilt engine should be after 500 miles, then resume the 3,000 mile change. I like that idea, so that is what I do.
As far as when is it safe to switch to syn oil, I have heard people say estimates as high as 15,000 miles, but I don't know for sure. I know that Vetts, Caddys, etc come from the factory with Mobil 1 in the engine. In my Pathfinder I switched to Mobil 1 after about 10,000 miles, now at 166,000 miles she still runs great and does not burn a drop of oil!

Here is the best plan of attack...

1st change- 1,500 miles (dino)
2nd change- 3,000 miles (dino)
3rd change- 6,000 miles ( synthetic)

So they still call it a 1k service over at Toyota?? Here at Lexus they switched the 1k(all we did was check fluids/tire pressure etc..) to "Lexus Personalized settings" Features we can change using the Lexus diagnostic tester.

... and the best oil filter is a Donaldson.

Some will argue the best oil filter is the one Toyota installed ( 99015-20004) but unfortunately, they are unobtainium outside of Japan. :frown:

What is Dino Still ??? Why not change to Synthetic sooner?

You can change to synthetic any time you want. The engine will just take longer to fully break-in on synthetic.

No big deal.
