Hi All:

Anyone know what the wheel back spacing is on a 2005 - 2010 Toyota Tacoma 4wd, in comparison to a SFA Land Cruiser, such as a '78 FJ40?

Thanks much,

Alan

You'll have to run spacers fo' sho', search around in the 40 series section, there are a few 40s and a couple early model 70 series trucks that are running Taco alloys that I have stumbled across.

FJ40/FJ60/FJ62/non-IFS minitrucks/Earlier 70-series all use 3.5" backspacing. At least on the 60-series cruisers, the problem/contact areas for bigger backspacing are TREs, brake calipers, and leaf springs (if you're running a pretty wide tire).

So, to run those wheels, you'd need 1.75-2" spacers, which is Bad Mojo for anything but a trail rig, in my opinion.

I have over 25k on a set of spidertrax 1.25" wheel spacers with no problem. Loctite and checking them every rotation.

Hi All:

Thanks for the response liljandon!

So, am I correct that 5.5 inch backspacing pushes the wheel OUT from the axle hub MORE than 3.5 inch back spacing does? Or, do I have this backwards??

Thanks!

Alan

05-? Tacos are 5.5" bs

Backwards, Alan. Larger backspacing places more of the wheel/tire over the hub.

Backspacing is the measure from a straight edge across the back of the wheel to the Mounting surface, so more pulls the tire in toward the axle, less pushes it out from under the body or away from the axle.

Sometimes a visual image helps to see things clearly.

Greater BS tucks the wheel inward and less BS pushes the wheel outward.

Hi All,

Reviving this thread.

So, with all that has been written above, has anyone fitted 3.5 inch BS Land Cruiser wheels on a Tacoma 4wd? How did it look?

Thanks,

Alan
