Hi guys,

I'm mostly an 80 series guy, but recently I was intrigued by a 1986 BJ70 LHD which is not far from where I am, and eligible for import. Almost 400K km on the clock, however the owner says the diesel was "rebuilt" less than 200k km ago. 5 speed, rust is very minimal, frame is good, glass is good, new tires and brakes. Sorry, I don't have permission to post his pics so I'm not going to, but overall a fairly decent/clean looking little rig.

I really have no idea what these are worth, but after looking around here, I get the feeling that the $8k he wants is a bit steep for this truck. Can someone with more knowledge than me confirm/deny this for me?

Thanks!

$8,000.
so the transmission has 248,000 miles, the steering box and linkage 248,000, the rear diff 248,000, the door hinges 248,000.

For some unknown reason the engine was rebuilt.

'86 will be 24v, cdn market no a/c. It is a 3B- and you do know these are not speed demons-- 90 something horsepower

The rust you have looked at? A pillars, door bottoms, rocker panels, wheel wells?

I'd say $8,000 is very high-double what I would even start to negotiate at.

I've looked at his photos. The rust in the rear doors and cargo area is a big concern. And, there may be more in other areas not shown, as Rick mentioned. So, I figured he'd be asking 4-6K. 8K is too much, IMO, and I would suggest not even buying it for less without a thorough personal inspection, since you're nearby. Yeah, if he'd been asking 4K I'd be tempted to buy it sight unseen from afar. It appears better than most, but ya never know...

OK, great info, thank you!

Yeah, I might have to go back to him and say "I think you're high, based on..." and see what his response is. If there's (a lot) of wiggle room in his price, I could run up and check it out. Thanks for the input guys!
