looked at a couple of 100s ('99s to be exact).
While checking the underside I noticed that both had a fairly thick (1/32-1/16"?) layer of black goop covering some of the mechanical stuff, and underpanels, etc. Not evenly though. Hard to tell if it was a rust preventive layer or some grease or oil baked on there. When I was rubbing it it sorta left a trace but could have been just grime.
Was there any standard protective coating on these? Or is it more likely to be sprayed on excess grease or oil?
Easy way to tell?
thanks
Eric
