I bought an LJ78 a few years back from a mechanic in Alberta. I'm an elecrical technician and drove it for two years as a service vehicle. I've maintained it, put new shocks on it and did the odd modification. Pushed it hard up hills and it never let me down.
I was driving my LJ78 up to the ski hill a few years ago and the engine temp gauge shoots up over 85%, panicking I pull over and pop the lid. Turbo is smoking..lol. My wife is like "WTF is going on?!" I quickly hop back in and stomp on it to get it revving to expel the heat. Temps returned to normal. Really got my heart racing at the thought of writing cheque's for a head replacement. I was putting too many KM's on it so my wife, (a teacher) drives it to school now. I bought an 09 Tundra to replace the Landcruiser for service work. They aren't even in the same league LOL. I have respect for the LJ78. Good work Toyota.
It's important to maintain the LJ78 properly, remind yourself the vehicle is 20+ years old, and drive it how it was intended to be driven. It will serve you well.
Just buy the F'N LJ78, it's just money and we need a good story.
