Its got 179K on the clock and is very clean. Its at a local dealership and he's selling for $6995. Nice looking rig but the only down side are the aftermarket rims!!

Thoughts?

Carson, i agree on the rims...they are butt ugly. I actually have a set of FJ40 rims on 31's sitting in my garage that i may work into the deal. See if he'll knock off more if i let him keep the rims. You never know...I know its not a 60but atleast my wife can drive this one.

I hate to say it, and I love my FJ60, but in this day of $5000 80 series wagons, I don't see an FJ62 having much actual value. Maybe 3-4K if it's exceptionally nice. The early 80s have basically the same drivetrain, are full time 4 wheel drive and have a much better (and cheaper to modify) suspension. They also seem less prone to rust. I would offer low on this truck, and a lot will depend on how much YOU want to own it. For the $7k this example is listed for, you might be able to find a factory locked FZJ. Just my $0.02.

was it painted? why is the interior brown?

I love mine, and that`s a nice looking one, but I don`t think I`d pay more than 5k for one with 179K on it. With the price of gas it costs a fortune to run them and repairs are`nt cheap.

Is the hood oxidized or is it just the light? I would say 4500-5000 for that one tops. It appears to be in good shape, though the mileage is a lil high for the money IMOP

I wouldnt pay that much. Seems rather high. But definately do not agree with cruiserdrew about 62's. Thats like saying he doesnt see the purpose of a 60. Anyway thats another subject.

good luck with your search.

Yes this has been on auto trader for some time and i think that is due to the price he has it listed at. I got them down to $5k for the truck and i am going to think about it. Its a nice looking rig...very clean and no rust.

Thanks for the replies guys.

Check the Transmission

I don't know anything about FJ62's but have been looking. What I have read indicates that the auto transmission is a problem if it goes bad. That has kept me away from several high miles rigs, just not knowing how to evaluate them. Other than that remark, it looks nice.

Don't neccessarily disagree with this, but on style points the 80's aren't even in the same league as a 60 or 62. That's the value of a 62 to me.

Yes-I agree. I meant value as in market value. Obviously, to an individual, "perceived value" may be very different. The 60s do have much more style, but the 80 is a better and newer truck. I own both and I mean no disrespect to either or their owners. If only the 80s had a manual tranny!

It looks real nice. Seems a little high though.

Then again, find out what's been done to it recently and what it needs done.

That'll be a good negotiation point.

You can always spend less, but then turn around to face a couple grand in restos or mods.

Well, at least that's what happened to me...

Hey BigSur, 179K is a little much for 5K. I would at least try and get 4.5K out of the dealer. It is not likely they will be selling it anytime soon. Let it sit on their lot and keep hassling them everyday. They will eventually give in. As for the wheels, don't bother trying to deal with them, just get the truck as-is. That way it's easy for the dealer and they are more likely to go down on the price.

Good luck. It looks like a nice truck.
