I'm a 40 guy but am thinking of adding a 60 to my collection if a bargain (ha) comes along. I'm wondering what years they were produced and are there any years better than others. Thanks.

OK. Should've searched faq first. :whoops: But I'm still open to any additional input and what years for production,

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the 60 was produced from 1981 till 1987. It came with a 2F mated to a H42 tranny and a split case with 3.73 ratios in the diffs. However, in mid 1985, toyota added a spacer right after the tranny in the FJ60 so that an H55 five speed could be swapped in as a direct bolt in. Therefore, an 1985 or newer 60 is preferable.

The 62 was produced from 1989 to 1991 and came with an injected 3FE, an auto tranny which I cannot remember the number for, and a split case. There were 4.11 gears in the diffs and all of these rigs had power windows and locks. To the best of my knowledge, all of these rigs were made the same besides options.

Granted, this is info for rigs that were produced for the US market. When you go foreign, you get into really cool stuff, like diesels, but that world is much bigger.

Good luck!!

Imho

the best year to get is the one you can... however, if you had the world to choose from and could get any fj60 on the market - either the first year of production or the last year of production is going to be the most collectable over time (if it is a stocker). if it has mods, then the price will depend upon how much you or the other guy thinks the vehicle is worth.
