Specifically, the lower outside body trim or whatever it's called. The clear on mine is peeling from sun damage. Plastidip it black? If so, what's the estimate on total number of spray cans it'd take? Any prep prior?

Depending on the color you want 3M has a high quality performance vinyl (3M 1080) that holds up well and they have a good selection of colors. My LC is River Rock Mica and I found a color that matches pretty well (M211). I just did some light sanding on the center part that looked bad (400 grit), cut vinyl to correct width and applied to center only and it still looks new after a few years. Total cost was under $50 and I bought enough to redo it at least once. Can't even tell it's been covered. This is what I bought and there are lots of other colors; 3M 1080-M211 Matte Charcoal Metallic 60"-Sold by the Foot | Montroy

I think this is the route I want to go, how large was the piece of vinyl you purchased?

Thanks

I think it comes in a 60" roll if I remember correctly. I purchase about 2 feet so I have a piece 2' by 5' which will do it at least twice, think it was under $50 with shipping. Honestly it's held up way better than I thought it may. Been thru the car wash many times with no issues at all. I'll try to snap a photo or two for you.

Thank you for info and links, JeffH. The LX has a much larger trim section that extends completely to the bottom of the doors. I'll read through the thread linked and see what prep is involved and if anyone had done this with an LX.

I wish I was a kid of the founder of 3M because their product is always great, but expensive. That company knows how to make anything adhesive.

If you were the kid of a founder of 3M you'd most likely be dead. Or WAAAAY too old to be able to see to even drive, much less step up into your 100

Or rollin' so deep in the cash that you'd be able to just buy a new 100 or even a 200. One to suit every mood or day of the week
