I am about to own a 1976 FJ40. Owned it once and now have a chance to buy it back, this time with no engine. Should I look for a 2F or go with a V8 or something. All I know so far is the engine was sold rest is still there. Thanks

I would go diesel as well if I had to start. Does depend on what you want to do with it. 4x4labs makes an adapter for the Mercedes diesel. That is what I would do as the toyota diesels are expensive. The 4bts are heavy but an awesome engine and make a lot more power and tq.

As these get harder to find there will be more of a desire to obtain oem complete cruisers in very good condition. If your going to wheel it hard build what you want. Mike

Thanks, had not thought about deisel. It was just going to put back together for sentimental reasons, no off road or hard driving. Thanks again.
