I am trying to put my new Solenoid in my transmission to fix my shifting issue. I called Cruiser Dan the other day and he told me what I needed, but my problem is there is two solenoid that look the same.

Here is my question if you are under the truck do the Solenoids go 1-4 from the drivers to passenger side or they other way around

Any help would be great.

Thanks

I have no idea. Why didn't you just ask Cdan? He would be the one with the answers.

I'll post up the transmission solenoid identification document from Toyota tomorrow when I get to work.

It corresponds the FSM and the parts catalog.

Thanks. They problem is they all test fine, but Cruiser Dan was saying they can test fine, but not work correctly

Thanks

I'm not going to discount what Dan said, but how can something test fine and not work correctly?

If that's the case, buy all 4 then.

He just said that there was no way to test them completely. I did a OHM's test on them and they all checked out. I have read some other threads that suggest the same thing.

Marslawn,

Just curious, what sort of shifting issue are you having?

When you would go to acceratie there would be this bid dead spot, if you pushed down the pedal far enough the truck would shift down and take off. Sometime if you started out real slow you could get the truck to shift dow into first, but that was real slow like rolling out into an intersection. The only code that came through on both ECU's was the speed sensor. I looked into that but nothing seemed to come from it.

Have any thoughts?

About 45 days ago I went through an issue with our (new to us) 94. It would start out in 2nd when the shifter was in D. This usually happened when parking on a hill. Happened about 3 times/week and was very sluggish to move. To immediately remedy the problem, I would move the shifter to N or to L and back to D.

I researched quite a bit and everything pointed to the solenoids. About a week or two later I replaced the dash shifter lights that were out and noticed the L would not show up at all. Then the next day my reverse lights and all the shifter lights went out. I then started checking the Neutral Safety Switch and the round connector that comes from it and is below the pesky heater hose. What I found was amazing. Someone had "badly" spliced (duct tape and a pill bottle) 2 of the wires around the connector and they were not making good contact. I fixed the splice job and then went to adjusting the NSS. After the adjustment of the NSS and the wire fix, the transmission has been shifting properly ever since.

Sounds like your problem is somewhat different but if you haven't done so, you might tighten/check your transmission kick-down cable, make sure all your shifter lights are functioning properly and check the NSS for adjustment and the connector for corrosion.

Yeah, try tightening the kick-down cable aka throttle cable first and foremost. They stretch over time and alot of us have had good results with adjusting it, plus its FREE.

Yeah my problem is something different. The truck Only will start out in first when you first start the vehicle. Beyond that it it has a hard time shifting al together. You can either creep along or take off, there is no in between.

The Thing is it always does it.

Thanks

Before you put it back together check to see if the throttle cable is actually connected and not broken. Mine acted that way when the cable broke at the throttle body. Replacing it requires dropping the pan.

yeah it goes into the top of the tranny

Here's the transmission solenoid identifier from Toyota.

It's for the A340 but you can extrapolate to the A442.

I opened it up, but it didnt have nay information for my 1994 Land cruiser Transmission. Mine has 4 Solenoids.

Thanks
