Hello guys, i just finished a project converting a Lj78 (rj77) from a 22r engine to a 1hz, my question is, i want to change the gear ratios to suit the 1hz, possible a ring and pinion gear change to suit the new engine, does anybody have any ideas, i was thinking of 4.11 for the rear and front, will be using it for daily drives only with 32' tyres. thanks.

Chasiss plate shows on mine it has a G144 axle, i checked it is 4.88, would a straightforward ring and pinion change suffice to 4.11? any ideas?, i would have to go for an 8" 41/10 or 37/9 p&r setup, thnks.

Yep, swapping to 4.11 should be easy as long as you get the right R&P. The LJ7* & KZJ7* had slightly different, stronger diffs than other Toyota 8" of the same era - sometimes known as the 'V6' diff. I think the KZJ7* may have had 4.11 (or maybe 4.3?) standard, so that could also be an option if you have any KZJ parts available.

Cheers
Clint

thanks for the info clint, i will look into seeing if the diff from the kzj would fit into my old axle as a straight swap,
