I took my DS quarter panel off to bang out some dents and found that the seam between the wheel well and the quarter panel was sealed with some type of shmutz (maybe bondo?). I've had the PS panel off before when I ran my antenna cable and it wasn't like that at all. All of the screws were coated in the stuff too. I used a mallet and a flathead screw driver to gently cut through it at the seam but it was a real PITA.

I was afraid that once I got it off I'd find some rot or body damage that was covered up but everything looked great. What is this stuff and what's the point of sealing up this seam? Is it like this from the factory and somebody removed it from the PS already?

Factory undercoating / seam sealer it looks like. Sealing that seam keeps water from getting in via spray off of the tire I'd bet.

Ok, It must've been removed from the other side already. I suppose there's not reason to reapply it when I button everything up again. I'll undoubtedly need to bang out more dents... Thanks Johnny!

Yup. Factory stuff. Guess your ps fenders been off before. Nothing cruicial inside just seal it up on reinstall just to keep sand/silt from getting in and holding water in bottom of fender. Concretes has been separate for a decade and he just sealed it up withs some asphalt sealant.
