What is this fluid under my LX470?

The dealers final verdict.... axle seals. Replaced under warranty end of last week, currently no leaks. The service manager was able to show me a pic of the leak, with green residue. Funny thing is both front axles were replaced by this dealer before I bought the LX. I would think new seals were part of the protocol, but really wonder if the seals were not replaced at this service and that's why one leaked. Anyway they replaced the seals on both sides so I hope I don't have any more issues with axle seal leaks for awhile. Thanks again for everyone's input.

Déjà-vu!!?
The leak is back after the axle seal was replaced? Does anybody have thoughts on how this could happen? I'm a noob to this. The truck is awesome except for this darn leak. It is wet right below the passenger axle where it meets the diff. Definitely seems to be coming from here.

That means it did not seat correctly. I would return it to the dealer and make them redo it.

At the dealer right now, they seem to think it's leaking from the filler above the axle. Does this seem possible?

Yes. If they over filled it

Thanks

After really taking a look at it they agree with you Caslim that the seals must not be seated correctly. Arghh... again I'll be without the lx and only owned it over a month. I hope they seat the bloody thing right this time. I asked about replacing the bearing since they are there but they said it's ok. I do not have any symptoms of a bad bearing.

Update: the dealer ended up replacing both front axles with new Toyota axles, they originally put in remanufactured axles. They had the car for over a week with road testing and claim there are no leaks. I picked up the lx last night, fingers crossed that the leak will finally be gone.

Well, good for you they gave you brand new ones. What did they have you driving while they were working on the LX?

I guess they ruled the seal (~$17) out seeing as how they are replacing the axle (@ ~$400+).
