What is the best 230 welder for working on landcruisers.

You can't go wrong with a Miller/Lincoln, but you could probably do at least part of the job, with that one.:D By the way, you didn't say how many amps.

I would have to say this is not a good welder. I did alot of looking before I bought mine an ESAB migmaster 250. the chicago's only have like a 10 of 15% duty. That is weld for 1min and do nothing for 10 min.

Hey Jamie,
Welding is more skill / technique than the machine. MIG welding is the "easiest" mode to weld in by most peoples opinion.
The welder you are talking about is probably the 160amp that Harbor Freight has on sale usually $399 ... now $299
For something to learn with this is an OK entry level machine. If you are just going to fiddle around with it and do some sheet metal and light welding.
Welding sheet metal is "tricky" any way.
Personally I like the features Miller products ... Lincoln is good too .. just don't have as much experience with them.
Chicago is more "hobbiest / home" owner grade a step up from that would be Hobart. Google any of the major manufactures, Miller, Lincoln, ESAB (best plasma cutters when you really want to make sparks (heh he heh)), and Hobart they have tutorials and how toos that are a good place to start. I would also reccomend the Miller welding training package.

Compare apples to apples though .... that ESAB probably set you back around $2K ... sweet machine if you have deep pockets ... not exactly entry level.

It does have a 160 amp, so I should look for a miller or Hobart.......

yes, buy tools once

toolking.com
bought a 187 hobart refurb $528shipped, shipping was only $7.50

it blows my old 135 HH outa the water:grinpimp:

Oh, yeah, that 187 is supposed to have pretty stable arc, if I recall.

Need help here, its a Chicago 230 volt amp mig and flux welder $375.00 is this a good welder.

Hunk of junk..

Miller/hobart/lincoln

I picked up the HH 187 and am very pleased with it.
I also bought the Lincoln 220 unit and took it back for feed issues, and it was enough to leave a bad taste in my mouth for Lincoln wire feed. Hence the purchase of the HH187.
Stick with the name brands and you wont be disappointed.
Im welding body panels right now with it, using flux core wire...:D

I talked to my buddy weldpro- stubbs welding & he says the newest links have the best feed rollers out there. but there are 3 different 180 links out there, & lowes & home depot sell china made ones you should avoid those stores!

the 175HD link is the worst of them all, go for a 180C it's the most $$$ but the best of the links
I was looking at the miller 180, link 180c and the HH210
but at $528 the 187 was the winner, & I could have got the HH210 at $899 but just didn't see myself needing that power often enough

You can get the new Hobart Handler 210 for about $800 shipped. something like $300 more for the spool gun and you can weld aluminum. I think that is about as nice a rig as a hobbist could ever want. I recently sold my thousand year old Millermatic 200 and will be replacing it with the HH210 as soon as I have a place to park it.

I knew they would come down in price, that is a smokin deal, where at?

Miller, hands down is the best welder on the market. I welded in Alaska for a bit and our shop would buy lincons for in- shop stuff, they normally lasted about 6-12 months before they had to be stripped down and serviced. We always ran millers in the field. they just cant be beat when it comes to downright rugged reliability. kinda like a cruiser:). i just recently purchased a miller 180 for my cruiser projects.

just buy a miller 251 and be done with it....
