What is better than a Nitto Terra Grappler?

I've got over 70,000 miles on my Nittos, never rotated them, and have never re-balanced them. Never ever have had a single issue with these tires. Just came back up from a long road trip along I-95 and was up to 100mph several times without so much as a wobble.

They have done well on the beach, in the mountains, and even in the mud. And they're relatively quiet. Overall I am very impressed with these tires.

Commonsense should dictate that I buy another set, but I want something new like the BFGs

Cannot help but think that I'll be disappointed though.

Anyone else gone from Nittos to another tire and had a positive experience?

it does fly in the face of common sense, but i just want something different.

I feel you. Even though I've been very happy with 3 sets of Duratracs in a row on different vehicles, I want something different too. Probably going to the 37" KO2 soon, but it sounds like you're after a more aggressive tire. My only issue with Nitto tires is they're typically very heavy which is great for durability, not so great for unsprung weight and wear on the steering.

I just took the Nitto's off of my TRD Pro 4Runner last week. They came on the truck from the factory. While I don't do a ton of expedition off roading, I am usually out every weekend. Some of that is pulling a drift boat around on a trailer on logging roads and such for river access. I also spend a couple of hundred miles each way on the interstate and usually drive around 80-85. I've had the truck and therefore the tires for a little over a year and had to replace the tires at 36,000 miles.......? I am religious about rotating, tire pressure and even make it a point to align my vehicles twice a year. I drive with a light enough foot that I keep the truck in the 18mpg range around town (or at least I did). So to say that the short wear life, incredibly loud tread and not really even being that good off road, I would never purchase these tires on my own. I have had countless sets of BFG AT KOs and KO2s. They never let me down on the trail, were quiet enough that I could comfortably talk over the speaker phone of the truck and looked great to boot. I changed over to a set of 34X10.5 R17 BFG TA KO2s just last week and was blown away how much quiter they were than the Nitto's. Having said all of that, I will steer clear of the Nitto's in the future. This is just my opinion and what happened to me and how I feel about the tires. This is in no way bashing the Nitto's, they just didn't meet or exceed the attributes of most others that I have had. I'm installing the new Mickey Thompson MTZ P3's on my 62 tomorrow, so I can let you know how it goes them as I'll immediately be driving back to St.Louis on Sunday, from Denver...new Cruiser in hand. Pretty stoked to put up against the 4Runner and the Tacoma as soon as I can get out..probably next week.

Ive run Coopers for years on many different trucks. Switched to Nitto's, now back to Coopers. Now, I run Cooper STT's and had Nitto Mud Grapplers-not exactly apples to apples but Ive never gotten less than 65000 miles out of the STT's. Can' be beat for a mud tire IMO

Have friends that own a shop that go back and forth about the Nittos, they are good wearing tires but can be very noisy or have quality control issues (their words). I have never run a set but have been absolutely loving my Cooper S/T Maxx on my 60. Great road manners, been terrific offroad and in the snow, and only had one incident of slip on ice and that was more my fault than the tires. Wife's '11 4Runner SR5 is just about done with the Falken Wild Peak AT and they have been great for the 50k that we have put on them, road noise was reasonable, offroad grip was good for an AT but just HATED the look of them. I have been impressed with both the Falken and Cooper so when we replace the 4Runner's tires in the next couple months we will go with either of those; specifically looking at the redesigned Falken AT or Cooper AT3 or ATP (depending on what Discount Tire can get faster).
