What have you done to your Land Cruiser this week?

Golly, back in 1972, you couldn’t buy Coors Beer east of the Rockies. Two crazy and older friends of mine took his F-250 to Colorado and drove back to Vermont with 20 cases and did it all in a week. Good ole days are long gone…so is he by the way

Also back about then, you could buy Coors in Idaho but not in Oregon. After a river trip my brother filled his kayak with it and made it almost all the way home to Eugene, when in a busy intersection (29th & Willamette), his boat came off the top of his car, with cans rolling everywhere.

Different strokes for different folks I guess. I grew up in the shadow of the Coors brewery. The best thing I can say about it is, they employed a s*** ton of local people. They had their own railroad, fire dept., water treatment plant, etc. But I still can’t believe anyone drinks that piss.

Daily driving the 40 as usual, this time of the year I go down to the river and stalk rising trout and toss dry flies. Or I sit and watch the river looking for rising trout and drink a few beers.

Tonight a rather rotund cow moose decided I was in her territory, she gave a few dirty looks, snorts, and hoof stomps thinking I might leave.

My buddy said "I bet I could ride her bareback for 8 seconds."

I cracked another beer, she wondered back to the willows for a few.

Nobody got hurt, physically.

It’s been a long journey.

I had the rims custom made back in 2004. I distinctly remember wheeling them in TX in 2005. Many trips through the Rubicon et al over the next 16 years, I looked at them one day in Death Valley in 2021 and realized that the tires were 17 years old!😱 I didn’t have the time to spend to smooth out all the rock rash and bent lips, so I hit the easy button and had new tires mounted onto a spare set of wheels from my K5.

Life happened, and it wasn’t until two months ago that I finally got the old tires dismounted and started doctoring up the wheels. Planets finally aligned last week, and I got the truck down to the shop and made an appointment with the local off road store to get them mounted.

As the installer groused about how far out of true they were, a little light bulb went off in my head that I had flopped the truck about 10 years ago ( @JLH911 knows when) and that might be part of the problem. Well, they persevered, and I got what are supposedly properly balanced tires (I haven’t hit the highway yet.)

As if that wasn’t enough, we’ve had a healthy dose of June gloom this week, and @majdomo has been patiently waiting for me to fab him up some bump stop extensions. I told him that I would break out the welder when I had something else to do.😉

Some of you might recall me posting up a pic of a wheelwell replacement lip that I fabbed up in my backyard from some 1/2” square tubing a couple of months ago, using a Landcruiser brake drum as a jig.:hillbilly: Even though I had already tested my endurance earlier this morning mixing and pouring a dozen bags of concrete in a wheelbarrow, I decided that today would be the day!

Mock up and tacking ensued. Then I cut a quick freehand arch into a piece of scrap steel and went to work on the missing radiuses.

Two and a half hours later, the driver’s side of the truck finally matches the passenger side. Only took 15 years.😛

Changed out the jets in the Fuji carb, made a big difference in power. After getting lucky and removing the first jet with the carb in place, the second time I lost it in the bowl and had to remove the carb to tilt it and recovered the lost jet and washer. Drives much better at speed.

Did you swap out with the ones included behind the screws?

Looking good, Mark!

Yes. Primary was larger. Power is noticeably better, However I noticed that it is using significantly increased fuel usage to the point I’m thinking about switching back.
Makes sense. Those are intended to be high altitude jets if I remember correctly.

“ I had already tested my endurance earlier this morning mixing and pouring a dozen bags of concrete in a wheelbarrow”.

@65swb45 I set two 4x4 fence posts last week. Used small 40lb bags. Getting them out of the truck to the hole wore me out. At this age a dozen bags deserves a medal

Could just as easily been a Downey.

The fact of the matter is that neither of them MADE rollbars. Bars were either from Smittybilt or ConFerr. Mine is a very old-school, and very modified ConFerr. 😉

I was honored when Jim was closing the doors on his shop that he gave me these two treasures from his legacy, along with the neon sign.

Then again, Pete Condos bestowed a few treasures on me before he sold ConFerr.

You would be correct sir.

My 40 came with quite a few ConFerr accessories that while I took a few off, I am holding on to them for someone who would appreciate them.

Spent about a week trying to get rid of that tick-tick-tick. I got one valve that's louder than the others. I tried gapping when each cylinder was TDC compression, I tried smaller and smaller gaps, I tried measuring the gaps with the engine running, which I don't usually do. When I slide the feeler in the #3 intake, it's quiet. Yeah, too quiet. I can't adjust it down enough to be quiet without a scary-tight gap. So I opened them all up to FSM spec, even though it's a Delta cam, now they all make noise and I don't notice that one as much.
