What have you done to your Land Cruiser this week?

For those of you that have done power steering add ons it looks like 60/80 series pumps are the go-to options for those sticking to Toyota. Has anyone done the electric conversion on the steering shaft itself? Looks like a good option from what I'm reading, just more expensive.
Not to bad on the EPS install just time to set up and make sure everything fits right. I’ve done 2 on the 1971/72 1 piece steering columns but cheated and used the later manual gear box. If you use a universal in place of the rag joint, you can get away with installing column in 1 piece which is huge.

I think at this point I’ll end up going the EPS route.

Got fuel line installed to the pump and the new Bosch unit is leak free. Plugged the pump into a bottle full of diesel to build pressure and test because it’s still having trouble pressurizing when it plugs into the tank. Fuel cap lock no longer works but the cap in screwed all the way one and the rest of the lines look ok. It’s got 5 gallons in the tank so not sure what the issue could be there.

Removed the glow plugs and cracked the injectors, got fuel spewing out of the glow plug holes and buttoned everything back up. Still won’t start though.

This is what I noticed some smoke coming from the wire bundle that has the water temp sensor and alternator wiring. The PO has a large gauge wire from the positive battery terminal directly to the alternator which I thought was odd. The existing harness bundle has a white/blue wire that wasn’t connected and I put it on the same terminal as the constant power wire (closest to the block). Disconnected the battery until I can find what I’m assuming is a short in that bundle.

Also, I discovered a hole in the radiator when it was filled with fresh coolant. It’s now all over the floor.

Building 40 a trail buddy. 😁 1979 Toyota truck bed trailer. Swapped a 2 wd axle (5 lug) with another 4x4 axle (6 lug) so my 40 wheels would fit to match. Pressure washed today and getting ready to do a little body work mainly on the tailgate and paint to match. Put the OEM fender flares on and build a rack for the front to carry small generator and cooler and or firewood. Sitting a bit high but I'm about to install a full size 33x10.50x15 BFG tire underneath so that may help. May have to remove a leaf from the springs and or get shorter shackles. Putting together some ideas for the top cover. POR 15 the underside next.

I had one of those and drug it from Vancouver WA to NY and back before giving it away.

What’s going in it? Where did you dig up the mud flap?

More troubleshooting today. I’ll give you one guess as to what caused the smoking wires.

And I found a new spot where coolant is leaking (at the tip of my finger).

I’m also working my way back in the fuel system to see where I’m losing suction so I’ve got 9 feet of fresh line and an old milk bottle full of diesel positioned so I can see it while I’m priming.

It looked like the lines for the sediment filter were backwards. I’m assuming the filter only flows one way, so that would be a problem.

Picked the mud guards up on eBay. Not quite sure yet on the inside. Primarily going to carry camp gear coolers water etc. Maybe some pull out storage trays or stove....IDK yet. Would like to build a top to match the 40's top and put a rack on it for kayak's and bikes.

It was fine. Most of the time I pulled it with a full size truck and it was so small you could not see it. When I towed it with a 3/4 ton and no drop hitch it was so far out of level at speed it swing side to side.

When I did tow it with the Land Cruiser it was fine, never took it off road. Used it to move my stuff from Vancouver back to Green River, WY.

I sheared the ball off with the 1/2 ton Dodge because I jacked knifed it in the street with a load of pea gravel.

When I moved to PA I left it at my Dad's in WY until I moved back to WY and since I was not using it I gave it to the contractor the built our barn.

Do you have a direct link to those?

Also, what brackets are you using to secure/mount them??

No, I just found them on eBay. They did ship from Singapore! The mounts were on the bed when I bought it.
You can do an internet search with the part number and you make get hits other than eBay. Or from Toyota if it is still available.

How is the spring rate with 80 springs ? I have to think a 40 is lighter in the front than an 80.
Best I remember you were building these kits for a 1:1 lift. Is that still accurate?

I’ve been collecting parts for this same swap using 62 series axles.

Thanks for the info and inspiration

Golly, back in 1972, you couldn’t buy Coors Beer east of the Rockies. Two crazy and older friends of mine took his F-250 to Colorado and drove back to Vermont with 20 cases and did it all in a week. Good ole days are long gone…so is he by the way
Also back about then, you could buy Coors in Idaho but not in Oregon. After a river trip my brother filled his kayak with it and made it almost all the way home to Eugene, when in a busy intersection (29th & Willamette), his boat came off the top of his car, with cans rolling everywhere.
