I got my Troa soft top installed this past weekend! it took about 2 months to arrive but worth the wait. I am very pleased with the quality and very very happy I did not go with a bestop. I am going to add 4 turnbuckles but other than that I am done with it. Next project is to mount my oem Jerry can.

You’ve made me consider a soft top.. my hard top is Janked after blowing off. Soft top

Honestly I have the corrugated side hart top but I kinda hate it because I cant see out the back and to me looks a little goofy or maybe more dated than later fj40s. (not that fj40s are not dated already haha) I also love driving with the top off and the soft top is easy to take on and off by yourself.

I have the corrugated top on might ‘64 as well and have often thought about seeing if anyone ever wanted to trade for the later style top. Is that a thing?

The tops are different and not easily interchangeable to the best of my knowledge.
I got an early 60's hardtop for my '63 FHT from a member here. I had fun restoring the top to (I think) as good as new condition.

So I was debating on a hardtop or soft top due to functionality. I love the look of the hardtop more so than soft but being in Ga with nowhere to store a hardtop in one piece I decided on the soft top to get some air flow. Also I got a hell of a deal on real steel bows and Julie’s soft top (which I hadn’t got yet) from another member that was local because he totaled his cruiser while waiting on the soft top.

Changed out the trans and transfer case fluid, added some new drain plugs and took it for a spin. Adding to the TROA soft top discussion.

Did you use the magnetic drain plugs? I’ve got some on the way and having trouble finding torque values for those as typically they are different than OEM.

Yes, I used the Toyota 10mm hex head drain plugs. Didn’t really look for a torque, just snugged them down.

I think you will be fine with the snug it up approach but if you really want a torque spec I used these and I have no leaks.
Torque specs:
Rear Differential-- Drain/Filler 36 ft-lbs, use the shaped metal gasket 12157-10010 for both plugs. Same gasket used in front diff filler

Front Differential-- Drain/Filler 29 ft-lbs, use the copper flat gasket 90430-24003 for the drain plug. Filler same as above.

Transfer Case-- Drain/Filler 27 ft-lbs, use the aluminum flat gaskets 90430-18008 for both.

Yes those are the torque specs I used and haven’t had any leaks make sure you have the right crush washers that helps with proper sealing.

Getting ahead of myself but couldn’t wait to put my FJ40Savvy contact cover on the wiper motor. Fits perfect!
