With the lift and larger tires, the OEM bottle jack is useless, I've replaced that with a better one which gets me high enough for changing a tire, but not for lifting on my jack stands to comfortably do work underneath. But still have a 6"x6"x6" block of wood to put under it for that. But I was looking for a decent floor jack with a better range. My current floor jack works okay but I use a 4"x4" block of wood on the pad to get me the height I need to use the jack stands at a good enough height for me to maneuver under comfortably. But that is probably not a best practice.

I'm looking for something with a higher range that won't break the bank. What do you use / recommend?

Splurged on a Badlands off-road jack not too long after I bought my GX, but I did most of the suspension work using my dad's old 3 ton floor jack from his mechanic days. Unfortunately it was reaching the limits of its height on the GX.

I got a Badlands Offroad jack for the win at home.

And carry my Toyota bottle jack for the road.

I have a low profile speed jack from when I had my lowered STi. The first time i went to jack up the GX, I found it was barley enough to lift to get a tire off the ground.

Like a couple others above, I went and got the Badlands jack.
Harbor Freight was having a big sale for Inside Track Members. I think the membership was $70 for 12 months and the sale was for $100 or so off. So I signed up for a membership and it more than paid for itself in that one purchase. Now I can get discounts on other stuff for another year.

Hard to beat this one if you can pick it up with a 10% or 15% off coupon:

I've used it to lift both my lifted GX (13" clear under the front skids) and my former Mazda 3 which was maybe 4" off the ground in places. It's more versatile than the Badlands jack if you are going to use it on other rigs. For lifting the GX only, the Badlands is probably preferable.

FYI, I place a 2.5' long 4x4 on the jack pad for lifting the front of the rig. I use it to span the two front mounting points for my skidplate (under the engine crossmember). It will go up to 20" without a block, so this can lift the front of my rig a good 10" above static ride height. For lifting the rear I put it under the axle pumpkin and lift it straight up.

For the bottle jack, I made this. It is 11"x11" and adds 3" of range. It's just two 2x12s screwed together, with M10x1.5 threaded inserts. So it can be used like the stock jack, used with 1.5" of lift, or the full 3" of lift. I keep it in the rig at all times. I've never needed to use it. I'll get a hi-lift at some point in the future.

Wow a lot of great info. I'm going to keep my eyes open for a good Harbor Freight sale (hopefully like Memorial Day) and plan a trip out to one.

You are in luck! Or, perhaps Harbor Freight does a good job of sending me marketing emails.

They had been downright stingy on coupons for the past couple of years. Early 2025 has a been a coupon blitz. Sales must be slipping, which is not surprising as the cost delta between their tools and name brand tools has really narrowed.

I still get a fair amount of stuff from there - obviously floor jacks, Icon hand tools (which are very good for the price), and US General roll cabs (also great for the price). For actual power tools, I've transitioned to Milwaukee (cordless) and DeWalt (corded), which are both much better than anything HF has.

Now that you mention it, the coupons have definitely increased recently. I am also a Milwaukee cordless collector but Harbor Freight is great for many things and a trip there is often my excuse for some alone time on weekends. Would hate to see them go under.

I highly recommend a pair of these - if you don't have them already. They are a Knipex knockoff but 90% as good and half the price. I have 2 pairs of actual German-made Knipex pliers with teeth as well - for use on house/shop projects where they are better than vise grips - but I'll be keeping a pair of these in my tool chest and in my rig.
